i'm sick and tired of seeing this narrative of crypto founders who are mad b/c "gambling/casino products" are winning instead of their personal high-brow, decentralized, useless-product-but-has-a-good-ethos. let's get one thing out the way: everything is a fucking casino. either with money or with attention or with fun. secondly, i tried building the ethos-driven, decentralized utopia version of unlonely at first--no one liked it. and everytime i built a feature in the gambling direction, it gained traction. not in a meaningless "wen token" frenzied way, but in a way where my current users were like "ooh this is fun, more fun than it was before". even if they weren't directly participating in the gambling, it was fun to see others bet, to see graph emojis cover the screen, to see people in chat getting animated over something stupid i was doing, like chess, or rock paper scissors, or a fucking blind dating show. then i would feel an urge to go back to ethos/big-brain driven development, and that feature would flop. so i've learned to kill that urge. stop complaining about how things are, and instead just learn and adapt. you're exposing yourself as someone who's being stubborn(which is good for founders but not when you're just dead wrong).
