9/11 Families Demand Mayor Mamdani Be Barred from 25th Anniversary Ceremony at Ground Zero Families of victims are calling for NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani to be kept away from the sacred 25th anniversary remembrance at the former World Trade Center site, describing him as an “unwelcome guest.” A petition launched by victims’ relatives has already gathered more than 1,100 signatures, including at least 300 from families who lost loved ones on Sept. 11, 2001. Others can come a different day, but let the families have their time.” The 9/11 Memorial & Museum said it works to keep the ceremony free of politics. The mayor’s office has not commented. Families of 9/11 victims deserve the right to mourn their loved ones in peace, without the presence of Mayor Mamdani or members of his administration.
