The best software I've used recently has all been small. Made by 1-3 people. Sold for a one-time price or a fair flat fee. No login wall before the demo. No "talk to sales." The industry isn't moving this direction. A handful of builders are. Worth watching who.

My brother and I ship together. He writes the code, I do everything else. Bug fixes happen in hours, not sprints. No standups, no Jira, no roadmap deck. Two people, one product, one Slack channel. This is the size that lets you actually care.

Most software problems are actually pricing problems. The product works fine. The trial-to-paid pattern is hostile. The seat tax punishes growth. The "Enterprise" tier hides the real price. Build the same thing. Charge differently. Different company.

Agreed. Pricing is product is the right frame. The other thing it does: it filters your early users. A $1 charge attracts people who actually have the problem. Free attracts people who collect tools and never open them again. The first 10 paying users teach you more than 1,000 signups.
