@KateClanchy1 On Lucy Letby, Phil Hammond is very convincing. On pious bandwagons in publishing, I think there’s now a sort of authoritarian sensitivity. ‘Narcissist’ gets overused but there’s a lot of it in the public arena being outraged, demanding and damning.

The Pope is both right—and profoundly mistaken. Of course, morality extends beyond questions of sexuality. But sexuality is not a peripheral concern. It is anthropological. It is the very framework through which society orders the relationship between man and woman—and, in turn, how society organizes itself at scale. At a moment when the most basic realities of human existence are being contested—when the meaning of male and female is obscured, and when marriage and the family are in visible decline—these are not marginal issues. They are foundational. Architectonic. They underwrite the possibility of social stability and human flourishing. To suggest, then, that our attention should be directed elsewhere is not merely a shift in emphasis; it is a misjudgment of first principles. He should know better than to say something this shortsighted.

@HattyCalbus @terrychristian Talking of mansplaining yet deciding to force your opinion to try & guilt trip people shows a clear lack of insight. I’ve always found many hardcore Christians, acting at the antithesis of Christian values. Try enjoying your Easter rather than picking fights. Peace be with you!!

I just want to put it out there. The organisation of Papal Masses in St. Peter’s Basilica for the faithful is an absolute mess. Happy Easter!

@terrychristian No one outwith catholics will ever understand the torture of trying to not burst out laughing during a primary school visit to mass, especially Good Friday. Glory days.

*My* contribution to ecumenical relations this week was bumping into one of the local Oratorians in Waitrose this evening and good-naturedly comparing notes on our respective consolations when ministry gets tough (gin for him, single malt scotch for me)
