My own preferred Orthodoxy is Petrine Orthodoxy. This version has many elements congenial to Rome, Russia, Canterbury and Geneva ... and only a few I made up myself!

@JackH1403 @secondzeit Private developers have been known to exert influence, even pressure on councils re consent processes, district plans. Not necessarily a bad thing but developers seem to have more influence than private individuals.

@petercarrell @secondzeit Agree. Wow, private developers build on private land? What a totally unique situation that is never seen anywhere else at any time. It is the nature of public v. private change. Private is concentrated in one face (influence), whereas public is dispersed among many

I wish that all of our Bishops and Cardinals had the heart and moral courage of Cardinal Pizzaballa to tell the truth no matter.

Once welcomed into the RCC an Anglican priest or bishop can either preside at the mass or not, unless there is an ordination per RCC hands. The answer remains No, despite ecumenical progress and rings and pectoral crosses exchanged. Nothing has changed about the bull in NO land!
Chris 🇮🇪 🇻🇦@FreeIrishman7

“We pronounce and declare that ordinations carried out according to the Anglican rite have been, and are, absolutely null and utterly void.” - Leo XIII Meanwhile, in Novus Ordo land… Giving them pectoral crosses and episcopal rings, joint blessing etc🤦🏼‍♂️🤦🏼‍♂️ Apostasy!!

A child has been sentenced to execution by hanging in Occupied Iran. Diana Taherabadi is only 16. The Islamic Regime dragged her out bed, confiscated her family's phones, and kidnapped her. It takes a second for you to speak up. DO IT.

SAVE PALESTINIAN CHRISTIANS. Taybeh, the last entirely Christian village in the West Bank (1,300-1,400 residents), faces mounting threats of de facto Israeli annexation and displacement. New gates installed at the entrances to towns in the West Bank—including one recently added near Taybeh—allow Israeli forces to regulate movement at will. Entire communities can be effectively sealed off, sometimes without warning. A growing number of Palestinian Christian families are considering leaving the Holy Land amid repeated settler attacks, severe movement restrictions, rising insecurity, and deepening economic hardship. The risk is not only that Christians will leave, but that one day they will be remembered as having once been there. What is being asked, therefore, is not limited to prayer. Local clergy in Palestine are calling for concrete intervention: international monitoring of incidents, legal protections for civilians, guaranteed access to farmland, and sustained economic support capable of anchoring families in place. savewestbankchristians.com

@petercarrell Indeed (& physical crude in the ME is $150) but note that futures prices still have prices a long way down by the end of the year. It is the long term outlook that will be relevant to any big capex commitments

Weird how the regime that promotes itself as the defender of Jerusalem is attacking it with missiles, with fragments landing very near and in some cases on “Al Aqsa” as well as the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the Western Wall, while the state that the UN has declared an illegal presence there and whose citizens it wants to ethnically cleanse is defending it and all its residents - Muslims, Christians, Jews and everyone else.

This is an example of how Israel can do no right. The Iranian regime is attacking Jerusalem with ballistic missiles. The headline below wants you to think closing the mosque is an act of discrimination. At the end of the piece it mentions that Israel has banned public gatherings. Which it has. The Western Wall is closed too. Had it banned them but made an exception for mosques, it would also be accused of an act of discrimination and not caring about Muslim life.

@benjamindcrosby We seem to be in the time of the Book of Revelation (topsy-turvey, disrupted, bizarre world which is full of trials and tribulations) rather than the Book of Romans (the state is benign, the greatest anxiety of the church is securing a correct understanding of how we are saved).

Edward Feser
Edward Feser@FeserEdward·
Many thanks to @moveincircles for her very kind words about my book Scholastic Metaphysics, about which she says “I don’t think Professor Feser intended it as a page turner, but I tore through it like it was an airport novel.” As she explains in this lucid and important lecture, she finds in Aristotelian-Thomistic metaphysics the vocabulary needed properly to understand today’s deepest moral and political controversies. Especially important, as she says, are the distinctions between (a) act and potency, (b) substance, accident, and substantial form, and (c) the four causes. She notes that it was the moderns’ attack on and burial of Aristotle, Aquinas, and Scholasticism that would pave the way for developments such as feminism, contraception, and the trans phenomenon. And she says that these are held in place by a “Thomophobia” (great coinage!) that dismisses traditional metaphysics a priori as a tool of oppression. Give her lecture a listen.
