@OunkaOnX If anyone in the British government is to blame for worsening the Famine, it's the British Liberals who cut off aid to Ireland when they got back into power in 1847.

Curtis Sliwa just reminded British royalty of their history. 'Your king and queen laid flowers at the 9/11 memorial But a block away is the memorial to the Irish famine. Your royalty was responsible for killing a million Irish. You never apologized. They have a lot to apologize for

@elonmusk In the Yanomamo tribe, one of the last Amazonian tribes to make contact with Europeans, the majority of adult males died violently due to inter-tribal and interpersonal disputes. Violence was endemic not only between groups but between individuals within those groups.

@KaiserLoengramm Scale is also a major factor. There were only about 70k French, Spanish, and Africans (including slaves) in all of Louisiana in 1803, and they were being brought into a country of 5.3 million. Even if they didn't assimilate, they'd be subsumed by the tide of American settlers.

No, America did not actually “bring in” much French and Spanish heritage. It subsumed it. Whatever of it survived was not at all intentional. It was meant to be replaced and erased. Thomas Jefferson wrote of exactly this in reference to those Americans who settled the Louisiana territory: “The addition of a country so extensive, so fertile, as Louisiana, to the great republican family of this hemisphere, while it substitutes, for our neighbors, brethren & children in the place of strangers, has secured the blessings of civil & religious freedom to millions yet unborn. by enlarging the empire of liberty, we multiply it’s auxiliaries, & provide new sources of renovation, should it’s principles at any time, degenerate; in those portions of our country which gave them birth.” - Thomas Jefferson Note, substitutes brethren and children in the place of strangers. The French and Spanish are treated as strangers. The brethren are the Americans. Substitution is replacement. This was not a multi-cultural thing at all, where they were just added to the mix and treated as equals. They were meant to be replaced entirely, subsumed, assimilated, converted. And while it’s true there are vestiges left, the core of this land still is, and always will be, Anglo-Saxon.

The Ghost of Francisco Franco@FrancosGhost

America was founded with Anglo-Saxon heritage (plus the surrounding civilizations like the Celtics and Germanic peoples), and bought in (literally) French and Spanish heritages with the Louisiana purchase. America is primary Anglo-Saxon + other regional Western European heritages

@RepMcCormick If sending them back is contingent on Haiti being a stable country, which it has never been, then it's functionally the same as amnesty.

Congressman Rich McCormick, MBA MD
I voted to extend TPS for Haitians because I cannot, in good conscience, send people who were lawfully granted protection here, followed our laws, and built lives under our rules back to rape, murder, and chaos in a lawless Haiti. This is completely separate from amnesty or illegal immigration. Conflating the two is dangerous.

Even if by some miracle someone goes down as a scapegoat, they have a cushy consulting job waiting for them. Justice and punishment are impossible because GOP leadership is too slow and the leftist patronage network ensures that any patsies have as soft a landing as possible.

This is good and all, but it's far too late. It's too late to affect anything surrounding the withdrawal itself, and none of the major officers responsible will be held accountable, no matter how damning the report.
Sean Parnell@SeanParnellASW

STATEMENT: The Afghanistan Withdrawal Special Review Panel has completed the substantive phase of its interviews with senior military and civilian leaders.

This Panel was established by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth at the direction of President Donald J. Trump to conduct the most comprehensive military after action review in modern history. We have now interviewed key figures involved in the planning and execution of the withdrawal, including: ▪General David H. Berger, USMC (Ret.), former Commandant of the Marine Corps; ▪General Christopher T. Donahue, USA, former Commanding General of the 82nd Airborne Division, current commander of U.S. Army Europe and Africa; ▪General Alexus G. Grynkewich, USAF, former U.S. Central Command Operations Officer, current Supreme Allied Commander of Europe; ▪General Kenneth F. McKenzie, Jr., USMC (Ret.), former Commander, U.S. Central Command; ▪General Austin S. Miller, USA (Ret.), former Commander, U.S. Forces–Afghanistan and NATO Resolute Support Mission; ▪General Mark A. Milley, USA (Ret.), former Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff; ▪General James J. Mingus, USA (Ret.), former Joint Chiefs Director of Operations; ▪Lieutenant General Carl E. Mundy, III, USMC (Ret.), former MARCENT Commander; ▪Lieutenant General Paul J. Rock, Jr., former MARCENT Commander, current Director of the Marine Corps Staff; ▪Lieutenant General Ricky L. Waddell, USA (Ret.), former Assistant to the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Senior Military Advisor to the Secretary of State; ▪Rear Admiral Peter G. Vasely (Ret.), USN, former Commander, U.S. Forces Afghanistan – Forward at HKIA; ▪Major General Julian C. Cheater, USAF, former Over the Horizon-Counter Terrorism Operations (OTH-CT) Commander, current Director of Strategy, Policy and Plans, U.S. Southern Command; ▪Major General Derek J. O'Malley, USAF, former Commander 455th AEW, former Commander of Bagram Airfield, current Director of the Department of War Special Access Program Central Office; ▪Major General Farrell J. Sullivan, USMC, former commander of Joint Task Force–Crisis Response (JTF-CR), current Commanding General, 2nd Marine Division; and dozens of other senior officers and officials and interagency partners. In addition to these interviews, the Panel has reviewed more than NINE MILLION documents drawn from multiple agencies and prior Department of Defense efforts. By contrast, the previous Department-wide review commissioned under former Secretary Lloyd Austin examined around 3,000 documents and was significantly narrower in scope. The Secretary Austin-led effort was also over-classified at the highest levels, which effectively kept the most critical and relevant information from public scrutiny. This will be the most thorough, transparent, and honest accounting the American people have received of what happened in August 2021. We are executing at the direction of President Trump and Secretary Hegseth to deliver a full and unflinching examination of the systemic, institutional, and leadership factors that contributed to the collapse. Our purpose is to identify failures in decision-making so that we may prevent the United States from ever repeating this tragedy. It is our duty to ensure that the greatest military on Earth is accountable to the American people. Our work continues. We are now integrating the massive documentary record, cross-referencing prior reviews, and preparing our findings and recommendations. The final report will be delivered to the Secretary of War and the American people in the coming months.

Removing TPS status for Haitians living in the United States would cost 350,000 workers their ability to work at a time when we’re already facing serious workforce shortages. I’ve heard from healthcare providers and business leaders across Nebraska, including @OmahaChamber, who are concerned about the impact this would have on patient care and our economy. I don’t see the goodness of deporting people who are here legally, working, and contributing to our country.
