@NicolaWillisMP Both numbers are insignificant. Labour came into power in 2017. Even if it’s 8,000, thats 2000 p.a. Almost everyone would agree we at least 100,000 houses (now), some would argue twice that. Even at the rate the PM suggested means it will take at least 50 years to get there! Ouch
The PM should stop making false claims about the Government’s housing record.
Today on TVNZ she stated “When I look at the record of what we’ve done, 8000 houses to date...”
Fact-check: The Govt has added fewer than 4000 newly-built public houses.

@Thoughtfulnz@LomasNZ@DrJinRussell Interesting... and I sense, to your point, the next 10-12 weeks will be very telling. I also wonder about the global ‘supply’ we rely on to sustain the advantage we have accrued... Covid-19 is a war, cutting the supply chain has many, in this case other unintended consequences
@Thoughtfulnz@opendatanz The benefits ‘loud and clear’ of go early, go hard.
A little calculation of the area under each line, comparatively, will tell us how much better off we really are. And, think of the social implications / benefits of that through these, what are still, really tough times...
@sahir_yow@LSEInequalities Old friend, tax cuts in the OECD ‘rich bracket’ are a mere scratch, it’s all about relativity.... If you haven’t seen this, it’s worth a look.... and see what we come up with for ‘wealth’ on a global stage....

Interesting findings on the impact of tax cuts on the rich across OECD countries. The result being..."higher income inequality and such reforms do not have any significant effect on economic growth and unemployment." @LSEInequalitieseprints.lse.ac.uk/107919/1/Hope_…
