#Gaza: an entire population depends on humanitarian assistance for survival. Very little comes in & restrictions increase. A truck loaded with aid has just been turned back because it had scissors used in children’s medical kits. Medical scissors are now added to a long list of banned items the Israeli Authorities classify as “for dual use”. The list includes basic and lifesaving items: from anesthetics, solar lights, oxygen cylinders and ventilators, to water cleaning tablets, cancer medicines and maternity kits. The clearance of humanitarian supplies + the delivery of basic & critical items need to be facilitated & accelerated. The lives of 2 million people depend on that, there is no time to waste.

For those who state “you only care what’s happening now because it’s in the news”. My reply could be silence, as I don’t owe a justification. But my work for the Palestinian people and their rights, freedom, and justice goes back to when I first learnt of the atrocities happening in the West Bank and Gaza. I have researched these atrocities, the history and the brutal fight over land. I lived briefly in Palestine where I was welcomed with open arms. And I have continued to speak out loudly and consistently of these injustices since then, now and I do not intend to stop. I have spoken and worked with Palestinian officials at the @unitednations and beyond. But this is NOT about me. Let me make that clear. It is about allowing people to speak out for truth and justice, when they became aware of it. It is about being getting off their high house and critiquing people for not knowing every single date of every war with the region. If you just learn of this conflict on Oct 7th and are now speaking out loudly, consistently and openly for justice, truth and freedom - then your voice is needed and no less worthy. Don’t let anyone tell you - this issue is too complex. There is nothing complex about watching the slaughter of innocent civilians and knowing it is wrong. Saying it is wrong. There is NOTHING complex calling for the return of innocent Israel hostages. There is NOTHING complex about knowing the difference between bombing schools and hospitals or not. There is NOTHING complex about seeing an entire region of land, 25 miles long, and 3.5-7 miles wide, flattened and levelled by an occupying force. You know what is right, and what is wrong. You don’t need a PhD to speak out for justice, truth and the right to life. So to all the phenomenal people in the world. Using their voice, their platforms, no matter how small, be it an account with a 1 million followers or a family dinner table, keep going. As the wonderful Seamus Heaney once penned concerning the Troubles in Northern Ireland: History says, don’t hope
On this side of the grave.
But then, once in a lifetime
The longed-for tidal wave
Of justice can rise up,
And hope and history rhyme. So hope for a great sea-change
On the far side of revenge.
Believe that further shore
Is reachable from here. Believe in miracle
And cures and healing wells. Call miracle self-healing:
The utter, self-revealing
Double-take of feeling. If there’s fire on the mountain
Or lightning and storm
And a god speaks from the sky That means someone is hearing
The outcry and the birth-cry
of new life at its term.
