We are Rural. Our dump is tiny. In fact, for "residents" they only started charging anything at all fairly recently. Metal is free to dump or you can try to sell it as scrap, but that takes a lot of effort for little return. Cardboard, plastic is free, just drive up and dump. Refuse is done by the ton, so after we separated everything, we were only out about $100 total for all the spots, except for the fuel cost, which was pretty high even though we get farm rate diesel. City dumps are much higher.

The funny thing is, the men I was working with that day...this is their home too. If they ever caught someone dumping, there would be no cops called, no "clean that up!", it would be the worst/last mistake that person ever made. There's a lot of wilderness, but there are a LOT of dangerous people out here. Not internet dangerous, old world dangerous. I sure as shit didn't want to spend my day and money cleaning up other people's garbage. Every day, I'm just a little bit more "old worldly". Our systems are broken. We CAN fix them, it just takes effort and the will to do what needs to be done.
