If you have to be aware of Christmas flashing lights, summer sun and extra time at the shops in artificial lights, we get it. Photophobia is the second most common migraine attack symptom, with up to 90% of people with migraine reporting this at any stage during an attack.

The after headache phase of a migraine attack is referred to as the ‘postdrome’. About 80% of migraine attacks may have symptoms which continue. Common symptoms can be feeling fatigued, irritable, difficulty thinking, light and sound sensitivity and nausea.

There are some effective non-drug approaches to help to control migraine. Sometimes people can't take medicines due to side effects, pregnancy, breastfeeding or other medication interaction. You may like to add them to your drug strategies too. shorturl.at/dkBRW

Sometimes people with migraine may be concerned about what others think about needing to cancel plans at the last minute due to the unpredictability of migraine. Is this something that has concerned you?

Migraine attacks can happen spontaneously, but other times specific factors (called ‘triggers’) can increase the likelihood. Some common triggers are related to your environment, physical or emotional state, or diet. Triggers can be quite different for individuals.

Approximately one in four women of working age experience migraine. We need to make work a friendlier and more productive place for the millions of Australians who are impacted by migraine.

The parties towards the end of the year may bring some changes of routines, different foods and drinks to usual. It can hard to avoid all migraine or headache triggers and we don't want to add more stress to the season by worrying too much about them. What are your strategies?

Migraine attack can occur in stages. Not everyone will experience every possible phase. Both a migraine aura and premonitory phase occur before the pain phase of a migraine attack. Learn more about migraine stages on our website. headacheaustralia.org.au/migraine/

Migraine is an inherited tendency to have headaches with sensory disturbance. It’s an instability in the way the brain deals with incoming sensory information, and that instability can become influenced by physiological changes like sleep, exercise and hunger. -Prof P. Goadsby

I let go of what I can't control and focus on what I can. From practical changes to a change in attitude or expectations of others, how have you applied this idea to your journey with migraine?
