HealthTech Ireland was delighted to attend the @HSELive Integrated Care Conference at the Convention Centre Dublin, celebrating 20 years of the HSE. The sessions were both insightful and future focused featuring contributions from Bernard Gloster, Sir Ciarán Devane, Minister Jennifer Carroll-MacNeill, in conversation with Bryan Dobson, Damien McCallion, An Taoiseach Micheál Martin and many more. The opening session addressed major improvements the health service has achieved in the last number of years including increased life expectancy and reductions to waiting lists. The theme for the future centred around getting better at working together and a relentless focus on different ways of working. Minister @CarrollJennifer outlined her top priorities to enable the service. • Expanding advanced surgical hubs and other infrastructure priorities • Accelerating the roll-out of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) • Driving consistency across the national productivity dashboard • Reducing hospital trolley numbers Central to this is the best use of citizens funds in a more predictable and efficient way. Delivery of patient care was to the fore in the breakout session with Damien McCallion calling out the need to address the challenge, and opportunity, of quickly scaling what works well in one area, across all the regions - a call echoed throughout the day. Feeding into this, numerous worked examples of innovative medical technology products, services and solutions, transforming the patient experience were featured. A showcase of over 300 internal submissions on innovative practices around the country anchored the event and highlighted a breath of positive innovations. Closing the event An Taoiseach @MichealMartinTD captured the spirit of the day stating “technology will enable clinicians to have more time to do what they do best - care for patients” Thank you to the Health Service Executive for the invitation to this inspiring day and congratulations to the poster award winners. We look forward to working with our HSE colleagues, on the national health collaboration council, to further support this integrated healthcare approach. #IntegratedCare #HealthTechIreland #HSE #HealthcareInnovation #DigitalHealth #CommunityCare #HealthSystemTransformation

HealthTech Ireland was proud to deliver the 2026 pre-budget submission to Government yesterday. Focusing on two key areas, critical to the success of the medtech sector and building on the 2025 document, the HealthTech Ireland pre-budget submission calls for adoption of the following initiatives: • We urge the government to enable the Health Service Executive to adopt a fit-for-purpose procurement model that allows for either Operational Expenditure (OpEx) or Capital Expenditure (CapEx), depending on the nature of the need. This is not a call for increased spending, but for smarter allocation of existing health budgets to maximise outcomes, value, and sustainability. • We urge the government to establish a dedicated Life Science Council to oversee the strategic development and execution of the National Life Science Strategy. Drawing on best practices internationally – where public-private have both played pivotal roles in shaping and implementing successful life science strategies — the council would provide essential factors for success including aligned leadership, strategic direction and evidence-based policy recommendations. As seen in the Life Science Innovation 2025 publication recently, at HealthTech Ireland, we believe a collaborative, unified and holistic life science strategy is key to advancing health outcomes for patients and supports the growth and impact of our members. We look forward to engaging with the relevant government departments, on behalf of both our members and patients, on these important initiatives.

@medtecheurope 📢 MedTech Europe calls for technical documentation sampling of In vitro diagnostics (IVDs) to become more risk-based European guidelines for IVDs ask auditing bodies to sample 15% of each group of mid to lower risk devices every five years. That places a disproportionate burden on manufacturers, especially SMEs, and diverts focus from higher-risk devices. 🧪 Why it matters? IVD mid to lower risk devices make up over 90% of the EU IVD market. Right now, Notified Bodies are spending too much time reviewing these mid to lower risk devices relative to highest-risk devices. That’s neither efficient nor sustainable. 💶 One technical file assessment can cost ~€38K — sometimes over 30% of a small company’s revenue. 👉 Check out our new paper to see how a more proportionate approach can ease the burden on manufacturers and ensure device safety. 🔗 medtecheurope.org/resource-libra…
