Where are all the articles about this? These factors are rising meteorically.
I don't think we need to blame "fad teaching methods" or any other straw people for the decline in results. Material conditions are much worse. #teaching #education

@rastokke @macintoshmaggie "In 2022, 44% of students in Canada were in schools whose principal reported that the school’s capacity to provide instruction is hindered by a lack of teaching staff (and 24%, by inadequate or poorly qualified teaching staff). In 2018, the corresponding proportions: 19% and 7%."

Trend in math performance on PISA in Canada. In particular, Manitoba has fallen 58 points since 2003. Alberta 45 points. Obviously COVID will have impacted the most recent scores, but the trend started well before that. These are significant declines. @macintoshmaggie

@ThisIsWillAdams @DavoZed @subvoyeur In what way do you think the ideas they have shared should affect their right to peaceful protest?
English

@JustWardell I'm not convinced that was his intent, and suggest giving benefit of the doubt in a medium bereft of the nuance of human conversation.
Regardless, reasonable conversations about ideas can continue even when one's interlocutor doesn't play fair. (Teachers often practiced at this)
English

@JustWardell The context of the original comment was a list of school leader actions to help a struggling school.
I am asking to what extent the reminder is a necessary/sufficient school leader action, since you suggested it was missing from the list.
English

@JustWardell I think teachers feel like it's a cop-out when leaders or others responsible for supporting them instead simply remind them to create relationships.
To what extent do you think such reminders are necessary or sufficient?
English

@JustWardell Yes. See "grown-up". It is very difficult to tell if you are being genuine.
I, for one, was looking forward to the ideas explored in a reasonable discussion.

@CommonS67191926 @RachelNotley Healthy and educated people pay the way.
I wonder how they get that way?
English

@RachelNotley The NDP are spending a lot of time on healthcare and education. The government pays healthcare workers and teachers, then they give some of it back. They don’t really generate any new tax revenue. Real money generating taxpayers pay the way. The NDP can’t comprehend this.

@AngelaDearing thanks for your fascinating session "Engaging the TikTok Generation" at #NCTCA2023.
As we examine our classroom practice to reflect on what students engage with, how do we reconcile it with the Learning/Liking dichotomy a'la @emollick?

@hopkinsjeff Precisely. It feels like the "For you" feed is engineered to create engagement in a very negative way.
Meanwhile, the "Following" feed (which I have to remember to click back to each time) has been actively made worse. Eg: replies with no context is jarring and terrible UX.
