how did the conversation descend from what it actually was; to this thing you’re saying? someone said there’s a pandemic of low IQ individuals in the society. and it’s a bad thing for the country generally. As a member of the society, you owe it to the society to at least have a reasonable level of intelligence, either from formal education or otherwise. A society with more intellectual people, and a society with less, which do you think will be progressive? This is literally the epicenter of the conversation. No one is asking anybody to not chase money, and if you have to fool to make it, by all means do. The main point, we owe it to ourselves and the society at large, to attain a certain level of intelligence. This is how we become better as a society. An averagely intelligent person will not throw their refuse by the road side, or litter their gutter. These little things that seem negligible build up to a national scale and that’s just one instance. You can fool all you want to get what you want out of life, or pretend to be a fool to entertain us but don’t be an actual fool. And intelligence is not only about being educated, there’s emotional intelligence, social intelligence. All of these things. I have typed too much. Wo GGs jare.

“We are too money centered in this country” 😹😹 Does society really reward intelligent people? The only thing you people reward first class graduate is engagement on X. No one will private dm anyone for jobs offer and all. But we are money centered? 😹😹 uhna really dey whine…. If I was money centered back in school, I don’t think I will even finish with first class. People are trying to survive you are saying we are money centered, will you feed them?

What used to be very tiring about dating in those days, when I was a bachelor, was constantly being on guard, as if the other person were an adversary. You go back and start analyzing every move. You start thinking about every word you said and the response. What is happening at that stage, without your realization, is insecurity and distrust. Both are bad signs. My best man, Fidelis, solved it all eventually for me. He said, "When there is too much brainwork in a relationship, forget it. " That principle became so true and saved me a lot of headaches. It also made me know when it was the right person and the right time to get married, as there was no longer any permutation, combination, or brainwork. The trust was complete and implicit. When you start wondering about the other person's motives, you should have a conversation about it instead of pretending that all is well. The book "Blink" by Malcolm Gladwell helped me a lot. Especially the part where he mentions the marriage counselor who could predict breakups by reading body language. The first sign to know that a relationship will not survive is contempt. It only gets worse, and most relationships never recover from it. If anyone thinks they are too good for you, for any reason, please free them on time. When there is too much brainwork in a relationship, forget it. I told someone exactly this, and she still went ahead. She was the one who had all the contempt over many red flags, but felt she had put too much effort and too much time into it to let go. Dude finally freed her. It is always tougher for women, which is why I understand when they become very ruthless at a certain age. As a bachelor, I was served more "breakfast" breakups by women aged 28 to 30 than by any other age group. The ghosting was legendary. They moved on like machines, and I understood. I was a very unserious person. I didn't recognize myself a decade later. I became the ruthless one before 40.

Agency > Intelligence I had this intuitively wrong for decades, I think due to a pervasive cultural veneration of intelligence, various entertainment/media, obsession with IQ etc. Agency is significantly more powerful and significantly more scarce. Are you hiring for agency? Are we educating for agency? Are you acting as if you had 10X agency? Grok explanation is ~close: “Agency, as a personality trait, refers to an individual's capacity to take initiative, make decisions, and exert control over their actions and environment. It’s about being proactive rather than reactive—someone with high agency doesn’t just let life happen to them; they shape it. Think of it as a blend of self-efficacy, determination, and a sense of ownership over one’s path. People with strong agency tend to set goals and pursue them with confidence, even in the face of obstacles. They’re the type to say, “I’ll figure it out,” and then actually do it. On the flip side, someone low in agency might feel more like a passenger in their own life, waiting for external forces—like luck, other people, or circumstances—to dictate what happens next. It’s not quite the same as assertiveness or ambition, though it can overlap. Agency is quieter, more internal—it’s the belief that you *can* act, paired with the will to follow through. Psychologists often tie it to concepts like locus of control: high-agency folks lean toward an internal locus, feeling they steer their fate, while low-agency folks might lean external, seeing life as something that happens *to* them.”

Agency shouldn't be confused with intelligence. I think too many people suffer from hubris about their cerebral abilities and discount something as simple as probability. Yes, you should by all means desire and make an effort to change your circumstance but don't attribute it to your intelligence alone. The grace of geography and the probabilities of more people around you seeking the same goal as yourself changes outcomes considerably. It is why Silicon Valley has remained more of a place than an idea that could be replicated at scale. Warren Buffett always credits his success to being born in America and living longer than others. He never claims to be smarter and he is richer than the clown who said that quote first.

The VC fraud said this first. Others are still repeating the trope. Ray Kroc, who created the current McDonald's, said: “Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful individuals with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.” The only true test in life is perseverance and satisfaction from the result. Success can also be largely due to luck, which fools people into believing they are more intelligent. The cemeteries are full of unfulfilled intelligent people.
