Herb Sendek with a nice answer on the reflection now and later on for this Santa Clara team "Sports is a tremendous vessel to enjoy relationships. My father was able to be in the stands with other family members, the relationships you have with your staff. The game is a vessel to accomplish that and that's what you take away. Any season, even ones that you don't win as many, they have the same outcome ultimately."

A second memo from Bari Weiss and Tom Cibrowski says CBS News Radio is shutting down. Here's the memo: Today, we informed our CBS News Radio team and approximately 700 affiliated stations that we will end the service on May 22, 2026. Unfortunately, this decision means that all positions within the CBS News Radio team are being eliminated.  We understand how difficult this news is for our staff and their colleagues, who have worked side by side with us to cover some of the most significant stories of our time. While this was a necessary decision, it was not an easy one.  A shift in radio station programming strategies, coupled with challenging economic realities, has made it impossible to continue the service.  We are sharing this announcement now to fulfill our commitments to our radio partners and affiliates, which require advance notice of the service’s conclusion. For nearly 100 years, CBS News Radio has delivered original reporting to the nation—from Edward R. Murrow’s World War II reports in London to today’s daily White House updates.  Our signature broadcast, “World News Roundup,” remains the longest-running newscast in the country.  CBS News Radio served as the foundation for everything we have built since 1927. The coming weeks will be difficult for the team members who have worked tirelessly at CBS News Radio.  We are committed to supporting these valued colleagues with care and respect as we wind down operations.  They have been critical to our success and remain treasured friends and professionals.  We thank them deeply for their contributions. Thank you all for your dedication and for the compassion you show one another as we move forward. Bari and Tom

University of Houston coach Kelvin Sampson goes into the stands after UH rolled over Idaho to grab his grandkids Maisy Jade and Kylen so he can bring them back with him to share in the NCAA Tournament experience. It's good to be a member of the Sampson family business.

Column: a mid-major guy making his first two-point field goal in 13 months as the Big South takes down the Big Ten? That is quintessential March Madness. Cinderella lives, in an era where some thought it couldn’t happen anymore. bit.ly/3NzWVZd

“It took me 16 minutes of high school basketball to think this guy is really, really special.” — @SaintLouisMBB head coach Josh Schertz on star center Robbie Avila Schertz originally recruited Avila to Indiana State and when he made the move to Saint Louis, Avila followed. It was a testament to the trust they built together.

Some thoughts on the epic end of regulation in Kentucky-Santa Clara: 1. Herb Sendek was trying to call time out but the refs didn't see it. This is why I do NOT like the rule allowing coaches to call time out. Do you want refs looking at the bench or the court? That rule went away a few years ago but the coaches wanted it back. Get rid of it! 2. There's still some debate over whether fouling up three is the right strategy, but the evidence is quite clear. Fouling up three with under five seconds to play pretty much doubles your chances of avoiding overtime. No strategy is perfect but it is the right thing to do! 3. That said, it's hard to execute that in a scramble like in this case. Don't always assume the players know how many points they're up in that situation! Lots going on and they're not all totally locked in. Happens more than you think. So the question is what have you practiced for? What's your policy? They need to be properly trained for when the moment comes, whatever you decide. 4. At the end of the day, it was a crazy, halfcourt, banked in shot. Hoop happens! And so Otega Oweh shot himself forever into NCAA Tournament lore. Somewhere Cawood Ledford is smiling!

Phil Martelli’s advice to his son is also a referendum on UNC today: "Play the team, not the brand. The brand is phenomenal. It's a legendary brand. But the team had to play this game. And in the end, VCU was the best team." The not-an-upset upset. 247sports.com/article/vcu-un…
