I have launched a brand new newsletter. It has exactly the same name as my old newsletter. It looks in-depth at Welsh politics and Welsh issues. The only difference is, now I own it. Subscribing to this newsletter directly supports my journalism. shorturl.at/CA938

Guess what, guess what, guess what! The Will Hayward Newsletter has been nominated "Best Journalism-based Newsletters of 2025 (specialist and regional)" up against the likes of the Financial Times at the Future of Media Awards. AND For Wales, See Wales has been nominated for Best Journalism-based Podcast as well! Thank you so so much to all the people in Wales and beyond who support these projects both with their money and their attention. I am so very grateful. pressgazette.co.uk/publishers/dig…

@douglas_warden @WillHayCardiff I think you might mean: ‘Prosperity for England (the colonists) came from using Cymru’s (the colonised) natural resources.’

@WillHayCardiff History has taught us that prosperity *DOES* come from using our natural resources. It also comes from technology, innovation and building things. To do that you need cheap energy and infrastructure. What does “developing the people” mean?

Nigel Farage wants to reopen coal mines in Wales. Wales had the highest rate of respiratory death in Western Europe due, in part, to our industrial heritage. The mines also devastated our environment and there remains thousands of people living below dangerous coal tips. History has taught us that prosperity for the people of Cymru won’t come from extracting the resources under their feet, but from developing the people themselves.

@narindertweets Brits? The English you mean. We celebrate Dydd Gwyl Dewi here beautifully- with Eisteddfodau and all sorts of community events to celebrate our rich heritage. Please don’t lump us with England. Don’t be a coloniser. Indeed, one might say that this post is part of the problem.

Should schools in Wales teach all lessons in Welsh? A council wants all classes for its youngest pupils and the vast majority for older ones to be taught in Welsh, rather than English. Councillors have been called 'zealots', but some want to go further. Where do you stand?

@thebarryhorns This is Labour’s answer to farmers too. They screw them and then give money to mental health charities and pat themselves on the back.

@FredThomasUK Britain isn’t a country. Cymru is a country. We are unable to make steel from scratch. We are governed by an unionist party from the country next door. #colonisers

If Britain lost the ability to produce primary steel it would be the only country in the G7 unable to make steel from scratch. #LabourSavesSteel

Think yesterday has a claim to be one of best days for this Government. 3 reasons 1. Taking control of the plant/nationalisation popular in of itself 2. More widely it shows Government can take control of situations 3. Gave Labour a definition/purpose that has been lacking

My Dad and uncles came over from India to work in the steel foundries back in the 60s. Newby foundry in West Bromwich to be precise. It was long, hot and extremely hard and dangerous work. He did double shifts and I remember him walking back home barely able to stand by the time he got home..all dirty and exhausted. It was a job British citizens weren't keen to do (funny that). Immigrants basically saved British steel back then.
Preet Kaur Gill MP@PreetKGillMP

Off to parliament to vote so we can secure Britain’s steel industry and safeguard British jobs. #labourSavesSteel

Latest news letter is out today. It looks at some really interesting polling around Welsh independence and a deep dive into a little acknowledged group of people who are keeping Welsh society going. Link in pinned tweet.
