Daily Reminder: Organized Labor and our Unions in California represent millions of working people in every industry in the state. We also advocate on behalf of all working Californians. Big tech billionaires advocate for themselves.

@LorenaSGonzalez Public Sector unions are helping bankrupt cities & then no one can get fired in gov't because there are so many union protections, lots of waste in govt.

Just out here making claims that are totally false because she thinks you won’t read the article. By the way, about 15% of CA workforce are in the public sector. You know how many are tech billionaires?
Maria Davidson@MariaDavidson

Interesting how openly groups like public sector unions talk about how they own California politics. Even though 97% of Californians aren’t public sector union members. Permanence is extremely powerful. And @politico is right - it’s why we’re focused on permanence too.

@tomassidenfaden It's also because the mayor approved billion+ dollar pay raises for govt workers. The city can't afford these raises so they are raising all sorts of taxes and fees to fund the pay raises.

The LA City Council voted to saddle property owners with a new fee because they can’t stop thieves from stealing the copper wire that keeps the street lights on. dailynews.com/2026/03/18/la-…

@MayorOfLA How much extra in property tax assessments will this cost Angelenos? We feel like we are being taxed, fee'd, & assessed to death & the city is still in horrible shape.

@spencerpratt She's planning on raising street lighting assessments on our property tax bills to fund these streetlight repairs - higher taxes once again

Karen Basura has given up on going after copper thieves, and is installing solar powered lights. That’s fine. But that doesn’t fix the problem. HP and AT&T had $87M in copper wire theft losses in ONE year, in South LA, alone. We need the heavy metals task force to crack down, immediately.

Los Angeles plans to repair 60,000 broken streetlights, with @MayorOfLA targeting a backlog that has left streets dark and raised safety concerns across the city. Full story ⬇️ lamag.com/news/los-angel…

@CohenSite Is this really a threat if LA is already sitting on almost a half a billion of unspent city homeless funding per City Controller?

Woah, Newsom is threatening to withhold homelessness funding because of LA's SB 79 implementation
Eytan Wallace@EytanWallace

“I am not asking — I am begging.” Big city California mayors were in Sacramento today urging Gov. @GavinNewsom and lawmakers to approve $1 billion for homelessness programs (HHAP)—warning shelters could close without it. Newsom’s budget proposes $500 million. He suggested he’s holding there for now, citing frustration with cities like LA not complying with SB 79, the state law requiring more high-density housing near transit. "You don't build, we're not going to fund," Newsom said. Watch below:

@spencerpratt This was already predetermined due to the quidproquo relationship b/w LAPPL and the Mayor who approved big pay raises for them. This endorsement was the 'payback' because she approved the pay raises. That's all the union leaders care about.

Big scandal at LAPD. Karen Basura apparently strong-armed the union for an endorsement, despite the protest of nearly every sworn officer in the LAPD. A lot of sergeants are pissed and threatening to leave the department, entirely. The Karen Mayor is a straight up mafia boss. Have you ever seen a more corrupt city?

@mikehtrujillo Don't forget those 25% pay raises Villaraigosa supported during the Great Recession that the city has still never recovered from & is a huge reason why the city is falling apart today.

@jonathanhatami If she didn't approve billion+ dollar pay raises recently for all city employees, there would be more funding for basic city services like streetlights without raising taxes/fees once again. How does this support affordability in LA? It doesn't.

The Sixth Street Bridge in Los Angeles cost taxpayers $588 million. Because of repeated copper wire thefts, it no longer lights up at night. The City now admits it takes them sometimes up to 270 days to fix one streetlight. Also, instead of punishing the criminals who are committing these thefts and forcing them to pay restitution, the City today just voted to increase everyone’s taxes with a new fee hike. Our LA government at work.

@ladailynews The headline should read - The Mayor is asking Angelenos to pay more in taxes to fund streetlight repairs because she doesn't know how to manage a budget by giving billion+ pay raises the city couldn't afford in the first place.
