Government has launched construction of a sports training facility at Lira University as Uganda prepares to host AFCON tournaments. The project, worth 13.2 billion shillings, has been awarded to the UPDF Engineering Brigade and is expected to be completed within six months, after works started on April 1, 2026. National Council of Sports General Secretary Patrick Ogwel says all funds have been released, with the contractor already receiving full payment to ensure timely completion. Leaders say the facility will support sports training and talent development in Lango and remain useful even after AFCON events.
