Sept. 25, 1924:Lotta Crabtree, a roguish, cigar-smoking actress who became the country’s highest-paid performer of the 1880s, dies at 77 in New York. Dancing her way to fame in California Gold Rush mining camps, the petite “Nation’s Darling” earned a fortune & gave it to charity.

Today in New Jersey history: September 12, 1940: A massive explosion of 297,000 pounds of gunpowder at the Hercules Powder Plant in Kenville killed fifty-one workers. Another two hundred were injured. The force of the explosion was felt as far north as Poughkeepsie. Some speculated it was the result of sabotage, but no evidence of that was ever uncovered.

@simongerman600 Could both of these be AI? Aside from people's comments about the top photo, the bottom one doesn't seem to match up with modern Phoenix, and the image quality is distorted on both. The earliest match that I can find, from this May: instagram.com/the_paranormal…

@Geneannagist A little rough around the edges, but I've found Google Drive really useful for local history work.

Hi #genealogytwitter! Question! I want to digitise my family archive I want it to be on some sort of one drive/server where I can update it and won’t have to resend folders to my family each time. It has to only be accessible by the people I add. Any recommendations?

@SalinaBBaker The inn is still around, too! It used to stand in New Brunswick, NJ - my college town - but was moved to an open-air museum across the river in the 1970s.

John Adams & Benjamin Franklin once shared a bed in 1776 at a crowded inn in a small room with only one window. They didn't build a fort but they did argue over whether or not the window should be open. Franklin wanted it open. Adams wanted it shut. Oh to be a fly on the wall. .

Sycamore re-listed today at $5.8M. Truly one of the finest estates in New Jersey. The photos used today sadly are unflattering vs those previously. On 47-acres, mostly preserved farmlands, the Luce estate (LuShan) is top notch architecture by Adams & Prentice [Weichert photos]

The great estate Norman-styled estate of LuShan (later called Sycamore) is back on the market. On 50-acres it was finished c1935 for Time magazine co-founder Henry R Luce. In Somerset Hills of NJ this has long been one of my most admired homes of the region; Credit Turpin Realty
