All of these things are alive and well in West U
Dr Taylor Marshall™️@TaylorRMarshall
I'm watching the film “Sandlot” with our kids and just realized that the film’s version of America with baseball, public pools, county fair, block parties, etc is almost extinct.
English

@Henryla123 There are plenty Metro stops within West U. I've used them.
Also, the inner most parts of Houston aren't the parts with the highest crime rates.
English

@evan7257 Exactly. West U has:
-Educated population
-High barriers to entry
-lack of public transport=insulation from inner-city high crime areas
-Independent and strict police
-mostly homogenous population
-block parties on the regular
-little league
-communal pool
-2008-proof RE
English

@evan7257 Honestly? Yes. Having been through a secondary education institution means not necesarily that you had values instilled into you, but that you are the type of person/family to be sent to college. And when you try to go to the pool you have to prove you live in west U (no outside)
English

@Henryla123 So the homogeny is that 90% of residents have a college degree?
English

@Henryla123 Is white and Asian homogenous? Seems like that's two different demographics.
English

@Henryla123 Not necessarily. More foreign-born residents than the national average.

You're never going to believe which one of Napoleon's Marshals he's describing

@maxishorny99 incredible!!

@Sergeant_Dubs Actually, it would be exactly like an ottoman empire. Except its also now at very great risk of various slave revolts at all times, on top of everything else.
English

@Sergeant_Dubs in other crucial ways. Not sustainable long term, would necessitate a literal feudal system of "gentlemen" acting as lords. Eventually would be pressured and chipped away at by outside forces, similar to the fall of the ottoman empire.
English

If the south woulda won we'd have had it made.

An interesting tidbit of history is that many prominent leaders in the Confederacy, including Jefferson Davis, had dreams of a tropical empire that spanned the Gulf of America and extended down into South America. How different would our world be if this had come to fruition?
