Today is the last day of ~160 days that I've spent, on & off, at @thenairobihosp over the last 1/4 of a decade...mostly in I.C.U. My body feels AWESOME right now. It's taken >15 surgeons & specialist, hundreds of nurses & medical staff to put humpty dumpty back together again.

Africa holds 60% of the world's best solar potential & receives only 2% of global clean energy investment. With the right finance, the continent could generate 10 times more electricity than it needs by 2040 – entirely from renewables. Africa must be at the centre of climate justice.

In the foreign diplomacy space, Kenya is a brothel. Willing to turn tricks for a handful of shiny coins and hollow words of praise.

@HansAmato Try a cup/glass of kefir instead of milk. It's even better.

I didn't realize drinking one cup of milk every 30 minutes in the morning would do what it does. No appetite in the morning? Don't force a meal. Just drink milk. > Keeps blood sugar stable without overwhelming digestion > Hydrates you simultaneously > Delivers consistent protein, fat, and carbohydrate in small easy-to-process amounts > Puts you in a hyper-anabolic regenerative state > Makes you warmer, not colder When you naturally start craving something salty, that's your signal your body is ready for solid food. That's not a supplement protocol. That's a cup of milk every half hour. So far the simplest morning hack I've found.

For decades communities in northern Kenya have lived with unanswered questions. Tomorrow they will finally have their day in court. The Environment and Land Court in Isiolo by a ruling delivered on 16th April 2026 allowed a class action suit against British oil giant BP to proceed to full hearing. The 299 Petitioners allege that toxic waste from oil exploration in the 1980s was dumped carelessly poisoning water sources killing over 500 people and thousands of livestock. The petitioners claim that the contamination included dangerous materials such as radium isotopes, arsenic, lead, and nitrates, which are associated with serious long-term health effects.

The American mind cannot comprehend this: A 24-hour store with no cashier or human in sight. Just an open sign, a bunch of untethered goods, and a money slot.

Six years ago, rammed earth was illegal to build with in Rwanda. Today it’s the primary material of a 69-building university campus built almost entirely by local hands. 96% of all construction materials sourced within Rwanda. Rammed earth, compressed earth blocks, locally quarried stone, terracotta roof tiles made from on-site soil and clay. The buildings were literally harvested from the ground they sit on. One cooperative formed by workers trained in rammed-earth techniques during construction now carries that expertise to projects across Rwanda. The building didn’t just train students, it trained builders and changed the local construction economy. Embodied carbon 60% below the global average for institutional buildings. Fully off-grid, powered by a 1.5MW solar array. Projected to become fully climate-positive by 2040, removing more carbon than was produced during its construction. Earth blocks were actually illegal in Rwanda until 2019. MASS worked with the Government of Rwanda to write new standards and guidelines to legalize their use. They didn’t just build a campus, they changed national building policy. This is what it looks like when architecture takes its responsibility seriously. @HermanWaita The only change Kenya has at tourism is the cities, starting with Nairobi. Kigali and Addis are attracting people for simple reasons - cleanliness and organisation!

Kenya's tourism is still living off the fumes of boomers & older Gen X who watched Robert Redford and Meryl Streep depict a fantasy in Kenya. That imprint, from 1985, was strong and to many...Kenya is the only authentic 'wild Africa'. No cost is prohibitive. Problem is...[1/2]

@HermanWaita I don't believe we attract the same tourist... Kenya goes for higher value who will spend outside the park... Maybe that's the reasoning behind the hike

i saw a mouse with an X-shaped battery compartment. first thought: this is stupid - who designed it? 5 seconds later: oh. 10 seconds later: OHHH! the X slot fits an AA or an AAA battery - whichever you've got lying around. the part most people miss is that the shape also makes it physically impossible to load both at once. there is no warning label, no instructions and no way to screw it up. the geometry does the thinking for you. japanese has a word for this. poka-yoke = "mistake-proofing." the product refuses your stupidity before you can offer it. i wish more things worked like this.
