it’s actually crazy that tokyo is both the largest city in the world and is plainly the most civilized. there is no crime, it’s perfectly clean, transit is incredible, i’ve yet to see a single person doing anything remotely disorderly.
most world class cities are western and it’s really cool to get a radically different aesthetic while still getting top tier amenities. i’m kind of obsessed with this place. hard to explain, but the feeling of being here is incredibly distinctive and kind of dreamlike.

@stephsmithio Exhibit E.
And one of the many reasons why I chose 🇯🇵 as my 2nd residency. 🙇♂️

@nieldlr Lots of running and walking! Basically run everywhere I go now

Been doing this thing where I run to all my workout classes within a mile or two. I find running to a destination much more motivating than a treadmill, plus is faster than driving when you factor in parking. A few months in and I’m in the best cardio shape I’ve been in years!

@stephsmithio Incredible numbers! 60 vo2max is 👌👌but dang the ~150min daily exercise time is the real win here.
How do you split that up?
P.S. - got an app on the App Store that helps you track your running metrics. Search “Stacking run metrics”.

@domtaguinod It’s taken a long time (1.5-2 years of training) to take this load, so the honest answer is just slowly ramping up. Would’ve thought it impossible before but now can go for a 10mi run w/o feeling anything next day. Also note the 13mi is walking + running distance

@stephsmithio What’s your recovery protocol?
13 miles a day on average is awesome but I assume your body needs adequate recovery.

@Joetenderloin Marathon training (peaking at 70 mpw) with dedicated speed sessions

@stephsmithio That vo2 max improvement is wild.
Have you been doing specific training for that?

@therobertleonar Had a minor hamstring thing for months that I eventually figured out were overused shoes! Since then nothing 🙏
