First foray into actually animating in @umoupen I get to use my imported clip studio sketching tool, the timeline and frame organizing works just like ye olde Flash. Oh it is great.
However I swear that static background layer is behind the animated ones, yet it renders on top.

Or at least, not anything in real life. It's a mindset problem, not a "activity availability" problem. We used to go fishing, hiking, out for coffee, out to just drive, tons of shit. Mostly all free.

Your generation made fun illegal. When I was in high school, I couldn't wait to get my license and cruise unsupervised. When I turned 18, I practically only came home to sleep because I was always out, even alone. Unthinkable for Gen Z now because there's Nothing To Do.

Yet another friend with a child turning 16 next week. Hasn’t gotten a learner’s permit. Zero interest in a driver’s license. I keep hearing this same story. What’s WRONG with these kids?!?! On my 16th birthday, my mom took me out of school to take my driving test. Same for everyone I knew. Even if you couldn’t afford your own car, you could beg the use of the family station wagon occasionally. Freedom. Independence. Heck, privacy on a date! Are these kids giving all that up for scrolling TikTok and an occasional Uber?

The symbol system was one of the pillars of fun-having in the heyday of flash animation. Many animators stuck with flash because it was effortless to compose sequences and have happy accidents.
That and the junky, overcorrecting vector tools that kept you from getting too clean.

In some ways the ability to draw "sexy" is the ultimate test for an artist; you have to understand anatomy beyond just being able to draw "cute," & it must be really annoying if you're a cartoonist with a point of view & a sense of humor beyond just being able to draw sexy girls to have your replies full of guys either 1) asking you to draw porn outright, 2) chiding you for making "goonbait" because your drawings aren't porn but still have sexy girls in them, or 3) trying to be helpful by pointing out there's money to be made as a porn artist. The last one is pernicious because it seems like that's the most direct path to making money as an independent artist, but it's also a self-imposed prison.
