@MuseumCommodore @oelma__ I spent a month using the DeHackEd utility to remove all the blood from Doom 2 so that I could get my middle school to let me hold a deathmatch tournament in the computer lab. 50ish people showed up. I still remember the name of the kid who beat me to win it all... I got 2nd!

@martyeppp @MuseumCommodore Nice! I'm doing a onelife run right now myself. I'm running a few little quality-of-life mods, but the main one I'm using is "4 player difficulty at all times" which scales the entire game difficulty up, just for additional challenge. I can't play without that one anymore!

@ACE_HIGH22s @GameRant I remember people would warn me that my Commodore64 games on the 5" floppy disks would stop working eventually. They've been properly stored since I was a kid - the disks are literally as old as me! - and they still work fine, 45 years later. "Rot" fearmongering is just that.

@GameRant My Saturn, PS1, PS2, PS3, GameCube, Wii game discs, as well as, my DVDs from the 90s & Blu-ray movies from the 2000s work just fine when me and the kiddos pop em' in. We'll be just fine 👌🏻💿📀🎮 My NES, SNES and Genesis carts work too! 😎 #Playstation #PS5 #PS4 #Physical #Sony

A reality check for the disc debate: a study suggests read-only Blu-rays like PS5/PS4 game discs may only stay reliably playable for 10 to 20 years, and experts say they degrade from day one. How do you store your collection? bit.ly/4wjJrlG

@NoZ4rt @virtualmage17 Thank you. Somehow people still don't know this a reskin of a completely game different game, which is why it feels so different.

@virtualmage17 It's actually a reskin of doki doki panic, that's why the mechanisms are so different. The proposed smb2 was rightfully considered too hard for american/european markets and got released as "the lost levels"

@FightersEdge1 Yes sir, I had a little digital camera that could take 30 seconds of ~15fps 480x320 video at a time, so I'm very happy now that I brought it along and took a ton of fun video of the experience. Great memories that I'm glad I have saved!

@exQUIZitely @harukaretro82 Original is still my favorite. I actually have to admit that the SNES version of original Simcity may be my favorite version of it? It's a shockingly great port.

Brush your damn teeth! Or, better yet, let me brush your teeth on Tooth Invaders, played on the almighty Commodore 64. I promise there's definitely a slim chance that I'll keep at least some of them from rotting out of your skull. #retro #retrogames #retrogaming #c64

One of the best turn-based strategy games I ever played from the pre-2000 era is Heroes of Might and Magic II (New World Computing, 1996). I lost count of how many times I completed the campaign. Everything about the game is brilliant: the core concept, the addictive gameplay flow, the vibrant and colourful pixel-graphics, the absolutely wonderful soundtrack, the light RPG elements for your heroes, hunting for powerful artefacts, the tactical battle system, city management, army composition, and the spell system. It wasn't just a mix of randomly thrown together elements, but they worked perfectly together. I could keep going, but anyone who played it probably feels the same way. The Heroes of Might and Magic series is one of the all-time greats, and to this day, Heroes II is still the one I return to most (followed by III). What did you think of it? Does it still hold up now, three decades later?

@all90saltrock People will probably disagree with me on this, but I always thought that song is massively overrated. And I'm a big fan of the early FF material. I think every song on Dave's solo self titled FF release is better than Everlong.

Foo Fighters performing "Everlong" live in Athens on July 10, 2017. Dave Grohl wrote the song in just 45 minutes during one of the darkest periods of his life. It became Foo Fighters' signature masterpiece.

R-Type is a 1988 Master System shoot 'em up from Irem, originally a 1987 arcade release. Fly R-9 through eight exciting levels of high-powered action, using your plasma gun to rip through armies of nasty creatures, and pick up Droid Units to make your ship even harder hitting.

@FightersEdge1 @oGchaZZZySoCal My 6 year old niece is OBSESSED with Final Fight. They have a monthly family day at our local Barcade where all ages can come for the afternoon, and this is all she wants to play, every time. Every other game loses her interest, but we will pump quarters in until we win!

The Fighter's Edge
The Fighter's Edge@FightersEdge1·
Games can be a future historical casualty simply due to their ERA's limitations. A game's popularity is based on that era's expectations and competition, not the future's. In 1987 when Street Fighter 1 released, we were still in the Era of 'Beat em Up's'. Those games as well as their limitations defined the Era. We simply didn't have the sophistication of the Street Fighter 2 Fight Engine with all it's intricacies and precision. 1989 brought us maybe the most outstanding 'Beat em Up' of them all in 'Capcom's 'Final Fight', but it was still a world away from what we'd come to know as a Fighter. Street Fighter 2 was an absolute Revelation. 🥊

@FightersEdge1 I've always wondered where on the internet said that is game is terrible. I frequently see it on bad games lists- but that's far from the truth.

@MuseumCommodore I firmly believe that it is one of the best platformers of all time. Randomized rooms, piece locations and robot behaviors make it infinitely replayable. I'm almost 45 and I still make it a point to run through it once a year.
