Topic that keeps coming up during my conversations for @AnchoredFi's upcoming tokenized hedge fund product. The argument goes: if you bring hedge funds onchain but keep their strategy private, you've betrayed the ethos of DeFi. Transparency means everything should be open. But that's not what people actually need. Nobody got burned not because they didn't have access to the firm's trading logic. They got burned because they couldn't see that the money was gone. Strategy transparency and financial transparency are fundamentally different things. A great fund manager's algorithm is their IP, open-sourcing it doesn't build trust, it destroys alpha. But proving the assets are custodied, leverage is controlled, and no one's dipping into client funds should be the baseline. And onchain infrastructure makes it possible in real time, not once a quarter. The soul of DeFi was and is never "everything must be visible." It was "nothing should require blind trust." And the next generation yield products being built should reflect that.

We at @AnchoredFi stay faithful to onchain lending. It’s the only stack built to serve the RWA refinancing demand TradFi has not bothered with. Cashflows too niche or too expensive to get through a bank credit committee, but the right size and shape for programmable credit onchain. Back to shipping.

DeFi doesn’t need to give up on lending. It needs to stop treating “collateral backed by collateral backed by a bridge” as the same asset class as collateral backed by an enforceable legal claim on real cash flows. Two very different risk curves. This week is the reminder.
