After telling the attendant how much fuel I wanted, I handed over my card, which was debited immediately. Just as the attendant was about to start dispensing the fuel, a man suddenly appeared beside my car, pretending to also be buying fuel, and struck up a conversation. He complimented my car, asked where I bought it, whether I knew any car dealers, and kept engaging me in what seemed like a harmless discussion. At the same time, the attendant drew my attention to the pump, asking me to watch the meter as he started dispensing. Everything appeared normal. The stranger continued distracting me with questions and conversation. A few moments later, I noticed the attendant had closed my fuel tank and had already moved on to another customer on the other side. Assuming my transaction was completed, I drove away. Much later, while on the journey, my eyes went to my fuel gauge and discovered that the fuel I paid for was nowhere near what should have been in my tank. It was then that I realized I had likely been distracted while the attendants carried out their scheme. I couldn't go back because I had already gone too far. Besides, what proof did I have that my transaction was not completed when he had, in fact, drawn my attention to the pump before he started dispensing the fuel? When buying fuel, keep your attention on the dispensing process. Scammers are becoming more creative. This trick was completely new to me. And the scam was a smooth one.
