What a load of codswallop from Peter Hitchens. The 1970s, to which he so fondly refers, was the time when trades unions destroyed vast swathes of the British manufacturing base with unrealistic wage and conditions demands that broke the back of all but the service industries.

According to SES water it was caused by a power outage at their Bough Beech treatment works. No comment was made about whether standby diesel generators were available.

A water issue in the Horley area is causing disruption at the airport this morning. The problem is affecting water supply in both terminals and is currently under investigation. Bottled water is being made available to passengers and staff across the airport and other contingency measures are being put in place to ensure the welfare of our passengers. We will provide further updates and apologise for any inconvenience to passengers.

A local water supply issue is continuing to cause disruption. There is currently no water supply in either terminal.
Our staff are on hand to support passengers and provide assistance where needed, some restaurant partners have opened to provide additional seating.
We apologise for the inconvenience caused and are working closely with @SESWater to restore the supply as quickly as possible. We will provide further updates as they become available.

Andy Burnham says people don’t want a general election. I do and the polling backs it up.
Opinium found 57% of the public want a GE.
YouGov found 48% want a GE vs just 35% who don’t.
So the public mood is pretty clear.
And it’s worth reminding him that he himself called for a general election when the Conservatives changed leader. Consistency matters. 🤨

In 2025, 246,000 solvent, motivated Brits emigrated from UK - many fleeing the high cost of living shambles.
Does anyone seriously think the hundreds of thousands who arrived are a fair swap and will improve our society?

I'd vote yes for a limited reintroduction of the #DeathPenalty for the most heinous crimes.
Specifically those prisoners who can't safely be contained or are guilty of such egregious crimes as terrorism or child killing!

So there is a very real possibility that, due to net zero buggering the grid, Britain could experience total power blackouts.
The IMF could soon sweep in to cut up our national credit card because we are so in debt no one will lend us any more money.
And our Prime Minister is debating pub snacks like a student in Freshers Week.

Pubs deserve our backing. I’m not sure some of @JohnHealey_MP's choices here do though... Our 20% cut in business rates will benefit thousands of pubs, clubs and music venues across the country.
