If you’ve noticed that the map has been missing the underlying map bit, apologies! It should be working now. I’ve updated the site to accommodate some changes from Mapbox, and endeavoured to keep it looking as close to the way it did before.

Wow, busy month! A Facebook post’s generated a lot of traffic & I’ve got a bill for the mapping service as I’m over allowance. I’m suspending the map for a few days until it resets as the map doesn’t generate revenue. Sorry for the inconvenience & thanks for the interest!

@showcaller That sounds fascinating. I’ve definitely read something about The Palace at some point so I’ll have a little dig.

@HiddenManc I have been trying to find info on it all ever since but nothing seems to be recorded anywhere.

@HiddenManc Do you know about the old parcel sorting office and tunnels underneath the Palace Theatre? I saw them in the 1990s when working there.

@showcaller No, but I think I remember Underground Manchester by Keith Warrender discussing the theatre. Were there really tunnels?

@HiddenManc Can you tell me anything about the underground tunnels underneath the Palace Theatre? I worked there in 1990 and remember the stage manager talking about the remnants of a postal sorting office, an untouched office & a horse drawn hearse somewhere under that area.

@AndrewPBrooks @ILoveMCR No, none at all. Although some friendly explorers have offered to accompany. I'd happily grab some waders and do Gore Brook some time this summer.

@HiddenManc @ILoveMCR That’s great to hear, glad to have inspired. You’ve done a great job of bringing all the info together and presenting it so clearly. Have you been down many of the covered rivers? I keep thinking of getting some waders and having a look at Gore Brook.

Gore Brook, running through Birchfields Park. It runs through long culverts both sides of the park, moving under the city unnoticed I found this map on the excellent Hidden #Manchester site that charts its course hidden-manchester.org.uk/waterways/gore… Many more rivers & tunnels on @HiddenManc
