University was once a place where one becomes a rounded person, not just a future worker But fees and a neoliberal morality — which knows the price of everything and the value of nothing — has taken that away It’s depressing we’re robbing future generations of that experience.

Britain’s higher education system, one of the finest in the world, is being slowly, relentlessly, destroyed

@HigherEd_UK Public ignorance is not wilful. It’s because universities have failed to translate and transfer understanding of specialist research for a non-specialist audience.

"Conduct of HR department is deeply concerning ... The lack of transparency, deliberate witholding of information with intention to mislead ... lack of any meaningful investigation into what happened" (Recent Employment Tribunal) Could be any University, but it's Nottingham

An organisation run by Vice Chancellors polls VCs on cutting student support Why not ask if they’ll take pay cuts or forgo bonuses? Vivienne Stern of @UniversitiesUK calls for a “serious conversation on how VCs are funded" Sorry, "degrees are funded" theguardian.com/education/2026…

It's "an institution that's driven by financial targets ... leadership isn't interested in research & doesn’t understand teaching" "...despite slogans, it's not committed to either Edinburgh, Scotland or UK" Forensic, devastating from Prof Paterson thetimes.com/uk/scotland/ar…

My pure math friends are mostly optimistic about AI doing math. What they are really worried about is not getting grants and positions because people will assume mathematicians are no longer needed.
