For anyone hitting this — the actual test is: nvidia-smi dmon -s u Watch NVDEC column while playing video. If it stays 0, hardware decode isn’t running no matter what brave://gpu claims

Me after 2 hours debugging Brave’s video decode only to realize brave://gpu was lying the whole time nvidia-smi showed NVDEC = 0% 💀

System works fine outside Brave: • GTX 1650 + driver 595 • nvidia-vaapi-driver 0.0.13 • vainfo: H.264/VP9/HEVC ✅ • mpv with NVDEC: works instantly ✅ Only Brave refuses to use it. Please fix — or stop claiming "Hardware accelerated"

Root cause from logs: "WARNING:vaapi_wrapper.cc:123 Should skip nVidia device named: nvidia-drm" Chromium hard-skips NVIDIA before checking flags. The VaapiOnNvidiaGPUs flag that bypassed this was removed in v148. No workaround.
