I resigned from OpenAI. I care deeply about the Robotics team and the work we built together. This wasn’t an easy call. AI has an important role in national security. But surveillance of Americans without judicial oversight and lethal autonomy without human authorization are lines that deserved more deliberation than they got. This was about principle, not people. I have deep respect for Sam and the team, and I’m proud of what we built together.

That’s really how it felt 😭

Something broke my heart tonight. I was at Taco Bell with my mom after we visited my father in the hospital… there was an older couple in there paying with cash, and were caught off guard by the cost of their order. There was so much genuine anguish, tension, and hurt… you could feel the financial tension… “I thought you were taking me somewhere cheap… it’s never been this expensive”. I’ve seen that raw, sheer pain a lot lately, and it burns in mind… it’s an unforgettable pain I work with vulnerable populations. Most of my days I’m pouring my heart and soul into a world I want to see. I’ve been extremely blessed to be in a position to do so. That’s where my greatest passion is I’ve had bouts where I struggle too, working as a line cook in college to save up and visit my family a few times a year during my breaks. Many times nearly passing out on the line from sheer exhaustion, but you look to left and right and your teammates are fighting similar battles and adversities. It’s what pushes you to fight for each other, especially when you feel like you have nothing yourself. You develop perspective and a sense of genuine empathy. I’ve had older couples pay for my family’s tab at a brunch or dinner—there’s a lot of true love and empathy in the world. At all corners of life. There are people out here battling in ways you’d never know or imagine. That little bit of love or warmth can go a long way. I had a dude named Brad help me walk to my car on crutches the other night at Walmart. He’d no idea I hadn’t seen a lot of my family in months, or the grieving I’m experiencing, or that I eat a meal every other day right now to save money to see my family. But yet he took the time to help me out in away he’ll never know much it means to me. There are nurses in my dad’s hospital room that have been so caring, so attentive. After thousands of thousands of patients, they still have the care and humanity to see each for who they are. And that’s incredibly impactful. The ability to make others feel seen, heard, and loved… that’s so special There are teachers buying groceries for single mom’s out of their own pockets. There are coaches giving their players rides home, ensuring they’re safe. There are parents working multiple jobs to shield their kids from stress. One of my favorite inspirations was my old ymca after school counselor, Steve. He was making maybe $11 an hour, yet was running and doing everything with us kids, way more value than what he was paid. Playing basketball with us and making things so fun for us in a way I try to pay forward every single day Love and empathy make the world keep us together. The littlest things we do can go way further than we can imagine. It’s so difficult to see us suffer. We have to keep growing, and keep working together
