Memories of Baja Sur California With @hiptraveler Visit Baja Sur

The highlight of visiting Santa Rosalia is Santa Barbara Church, designed by Alexander Gustave Eiffel ( of Eiffel Tower fame ) for the 1889 Paris Exposition which was brought to Mexico in 1897. #VisitBajaSur #BajaCaliforniaSur #HipTraveler

Surrounded by endemic flora and fauna, the main attractions here are include seeing 7000 year old cave paintings, hiking to the crater of the volcano and also visiting the nearby hot springs. #VisitBajaSur #BajaCaliforniaSur #HipTraveler

We finish with another unmissable experience in Baja California Sur , the chance to spend the night under stars in the shadows of the mighty Las Tres Virgenes, a complex of active volcanoes in the El Vizcaíno Biosphere Reserve. #VisitBajaSur #BajaCaliforniaSur #HipTraveler

It was quite an experience, eh? Surrounded by thousands of acres of wilderness, gazing at three massive volcanos, while sipping Mexican libations around a campfire with friends. It doesn't get much better.

Melvin joined the HipTraveler team for a tour of #BajaCaliforniaSur for his first look at "the Baja". Happy to report that for someone as well traveled as Melvin, the original TravelDude, he commented that Baja was one of the most unique and welcoming places he'd ever been.

@TravelDudes @BudgetTraveller The bay was quite placid with very little wind, no doubt caused by the shelter of the surrounding mountains. Further South in #BajaCaliforniaSur there are a couple places that are world class for #kitesurfing

@BudgetTraveller Beautiful town. And good food. Must be a good spot for kite surfing too. I was surprised that there were none.

We started our trip in the sleepy but beautiful town of Loreto which marks the northern border of Baja California Sur. It feels very untouched by mass tourism, like a town lost in time. #VisitBajaSur #LoretoBCSTourism #HipTraveler

With the Whale watching season starting in December so we instead went fishing and visited the small fishing community of San Bruno. #VisitBajaSur #BajaCaliforniaSur #HipTraveler

Another main reason for coming to Loreto was to explore the dazzling Loreto Bay National Marine Park, often referred to as the Galápagos of Mexico thanks to the 800-plus aquatic species that call the waters home, from blue whales to sea lions. #VisitBajaSur #HipTraveler

We later dig into a local lunch of ceviche and fish tacos, prepared on the beach by a team of local fisherman. One of my favourite meals, ever! #VisitBajaSur #BajaCaliforniaSur #HipTraveler

Right on the beach, we visit a wonderful cafe called Nomadico. Serving handcrafted coffee, using beans from their roastery in Cholula Puebla in mainland Mexico, this cafe feels like you could be in Brooklyn or Berlin. #VisitBajaSur #BajaCaliforniaSur #HipTraveler

We spent the day in El Burro, an unspoilt bay framed by a crescent shaped golden beach.The waters here are turquoise, crystal clear. Even for November, the water was surprisingly warm + calm:perfect for a dip or for kayaking. #VisitBajaSur #BajaCaliforniaSur #HipTraveler

Where the desert meets the sea: Following day we drove a few hours from Loreto to Mulegé, and were greeted to by a spectacular stretch of coastline known as Bahía Concepción. #VisitBajaSur #BajaCaliforniaSur #HipTraveler

Loreto was the first city colonised by the Spanish. There’s still a lot of historical sights to visit, the centrepiece being Mission Loreto , a church that has been standing over the city since the late 1600’s. #VisitBajaSur #LoretoBCSTourism #HipTraveler
