@LaborSpokane Here is some local reporting discussing the conversion of the old Franklin School building into a temporary prison. The new Franklin School was completed in 1909 and the old school buildings had been abandoned for school use. The Spokesman-Review, November 9, 1909.

From the Spokane Free Speech Fight of 1909: "The Franklin schoolhouse where over 200 of them have been incarcerated is kept in a state of unparalleled filth."

**BREAKING NEWS** We are pleased to announce that property owners in @BrownesAddition have voted to create a local historic district! Over 62% of property owners participated in the vote, & 54% of all 371 parcels were returned with a "yes" vote in favor of forming the district.

Today is the last day for property owners to submit their ballots regarding the proposal to make Browne's Addition a historic neighborhood. If passed by voters, it will then move to the Spokane City Council. kxly.com/news/brownes-a…

@ImErinRobinson Property owners will only need to get approval from the Spokane Historic Landmarks Commission for major exterior changes. Minor changes will be approved administratively by our office. You can see a helpful table at the end of this document: historicspokane.org/wp-content/upl…

It would also mean property owners have to consult the Spokane Historic Preservation Office and get board approval for any exterior renovations to their properties, including landscaping.

The Spokane Plan Commission recommended the formation of the @BrownesAddition Local Historic District Overlay Zone to City Council last night!! The next step is a Landmarks Commission hearing on 6/19. You can watch last night's hearing here: vimeo.com/341927285
