🏴‍☠️⚔️ How Things Go From Bad to Worse The US Navy, when CSG-10 arrives on station, will have as many as 17 destroyers in the vicinity of the Arabian Sea. I figure the admirals are not as clueless as they often seem, so they will deem it necessary to use at least a full dozen of those destroyers to protect the carriers, leaving five to play pirate, along with Marines from the amphibious ready group. That game will last until one or more of the following very conceivable things happen: 🔹 The Iranians execute powerful strikes against a destroyer or two. 🔹 One or more helicopters is shot down trying to land Marines on a big ship where an ambush has been laid. 🔹 An aircraft carrier ventures too close and is — in a flash, as it were — disabled by a "lucky shot" (or four) from a large salvo of Iranian drones and missiles. 🔹 The Chinese and Russians start running warship-escorted convoys. The myth of American military impregnability has already been deeply shaken by the events of the past 52 days. ⚓️ US Navy Battle Fleet Update Assuming the Rybar map attached below is accurate, this is the current US Navy order of battle arrayed against Iran: Carrier Strike Group 3 (USS Fraidy Abe CVN-72) remains in the northern Arabian Sea, along with an Amphibious Ready Group (USS Tripoli LHA-7) and 8 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers. Also in the northern Indian Ocean: 4 additional destroyers, and presumably 1 Ohio-class missile submarine. In the southern Indian Ocean, in the vicinity of Madagascar: CSG-10 (USS Bush League CVN-77), along with 5 destroyers. CSG-10 should arrive in the vicinity of the Gulf of Oman no later than Friday. In the northern Red Sea: CSG-12 (USS Poopy Gerry CVN-78), along with 3 destroyers. In the eastern Mediterranean: 5 destroyers. US fleet order of battle in the region: 3 aircraft carriers, 1 amphibious ready group (3 ships), 1 missile submarine, 25 destroyers — 32 surface warships total, over half of the currently underway US surface warship fleet. Assuming a standard destroyer load-out (32 TLAMs each), plus 154 on the submarine, the fleet has ~954 Tomahawk cruise missiles. A fleet this size is meant to be used, and it will be used. I expect the largest US naval attack yet to occur in this war. I also expect Iran will respond with its largest missile and drone strike of the war, including their most concerted attack yet against US warships.
