Anime is worth Billions, yet its animators can’t afford food. Work 600 hours a month. End their own lives. Yet no one cares - And as a war fought by Miyazaki and Satoshi Kon fizzles to its end, 1 question remains: How did this happen??? Tmrw @ 8: youtu.be/BDEIPa9b3OU

Don’t let my boy be done like this come on

@TikTokSupport When I applied for the Creator Rewards Program, I was immediately rejected for "Unoriginal Content" despite us making most if not all of our animations from scratch, including voice actors, music, models, etc. There are a lot of unauthorized reposts of our work though, and I think an automatic process is flagging it. We put a lot of effort into our videos...would it be possible to have a human review this and approve us?

So on July 15, 2024, I made a thread asking for Qs about YouTube Storytelling. I limited it to 30 Qs, and...it got 30 responses. Which was more than I honestly expected! So I'm finally going to spend some time answering them slowly. @HitRegBroke has made it an ongoing meme to remind me of the fact that I've never answered his question, so I want to do so first: --- QUESTION --- "One of the most important things in storytelling is to show - not tell, but it seems youtube is still abundant with "tellers" and not "showers" (imo) Does this principle carry over to yt? Is there a balance?" --- MY ANSWER --- The real question behind "is it better to show or tell?" is actually a matter of understanding YouTube-specific storytelling aims. Storytelling almost always has an aim to make someone feel something. This doesn't necessarily mean "I want my viewers to feel something deep" for every video. It might mean something as simple as "I want people who watch this to laugh", and that's still a perfectly valid aim. However, a fundamental principle behind why we sometimes "tell" so much on YouTube is because *clarity* is an enabler of emotion. Confusion is generally something that we stay far away from. When people are confused, then what happens is this: rather than feeling something special, viewers just don't feel anything. They don't understand what's going on. And because they don't understand, they don't care. That said, viewers may also understand and feel a lot more than you think, too. Not only that, but if you "show" something that's implied and not that obvious, then its discovery is its own emotional payoff too (such as symbolism that is difficult to catch). "Show not tell", as a principle, just needs to be balanced with a need for clarity. I think perhaps the best solution, if you want the best of both worlds, is to have a direct story at the front, and then heavy symbolism etc. woven that's non-blocking to that direct story. That way, the audience that just understands the main story will really get it, and then the second audience that appreciates things like symbolism/implied things etc. will feel the depth that comes from that too. In terms of specific examples, I think Pixar actually does a really good job of this. There's an obvious story that matter to children, and then there's heavier implied themes that matter to adults (e.g. when 'Inside Out 2' touches on feelings to past attachments, or when 'Elemental' has deeper themes about discrimination). Lastly: I do think that in longer videos, there's a cool opportunity for "strategic confusion". That doesn't really happen much on YouTube yet as far as I know, or at least I can't think of many case examples off the top of my head immediately. But keeping people truly in the dark sounds like a fun innovation to try out, because I think the payoff could be massive for the right video.

3 more days till Q4 Even though I’m travelling the world and making sure I have no regrets if I were to die Young. I will still lock in for Q4 Here’s my gamplan. ✅ - Launched the NexLev extension ✅ - Instructed the NexLev team on all bug fixes ✅- Finally checking in with the teams running the Diddy channels. Currently at 1k a day only on those. Need to scale up quality significantly since there is too much supply compared to last cycle. ✅- Have a branded channel with @HitRegBroke that is finally getting traction on which we wanna release digital products in the coming months, gonna be working on that. ✅ - Gonna start my initial test to partner up with course students so I can run 100 channels in partnership in 2025. Running an initial experiment mid October to see if it’s a viable model. ✅ - Catch up on all the other channels I run. Been focused on other projects and travel over September so have to get them back on track. ✅ - Find atleast 10 or so untapped niches in the coming days so I can stock pile before RPMS go to shit in Q1 What’s your plan?

summary: ai for video clips = another form of stock footage ai for video, title, thumb ideas = already exist elsewhere channel communities = it existed before but didn't do much, trying again? hype = me when a 500K sub channel gets more hype than a 500 sub channel autodub = sick

If your strategy is just to get views, you’ve already lost. Every view is either an investment or a wasted opportunity. Chasing views is a dead-end game, it is the default strategy of the majority and that's precisely why they never make it or don't last long. I know it takes serious effort to break from the 'chasing views' addiction, as it's deeply wired into our need for validation but holding on to it is exactly why you're not reaching your goals. The real game is creating demand because attention isn’t earned, it’s rented. You have limited time to capitalize on it. People only have so much of it to give, and once you’ve got it you better know what to do with it. Views without demand are like fireworks, they light up the sky for a moment but leave no lasting impact besides feeding your ego for a short period of time. Creating demand should be your Day 1 strategy. You don’t just want views, you want people waiting for what you do next. You want to fulfill a need they didn’t even know they had. When you create demand, you stop chasing attention, attention chases you. You transition from competing against the market to being the market itself. Always remember that attention is a zero-sum game, if you don’t manage the attention you’ve caught, someone else will. ----- To explore this further, I wrote a guide (YouTube from 0 to 1) that changed the lives of many content creators of all levels in my private (but free) newsletter. Link in bio to apply.
