We just finished a Dade FNPS Field Trip to a local Pine Rockland. Check out this young cabbage palm (Sabal palmetto), it is an essential species in our ecosystems. If you look closely, you'll also see a gopher tortoise.

Frostweed (Verbesina virginica) is a great south Florida native which has a profusion of flowers in the fall. It is in the sunflower family, and is greatly sought after by pollinators.
