I greatly appreciate your videos explaining complex Venezuelan issues (Venezuela is never easy), thank you, Alex!
However, I will dissent on one thing you mentioned, that if a protest movement fails, it has to be a collective failure.
It definitely was a collective failure of the Vzlan society as a whole not to stop the chavista deconstruction of democracy and rule of law while this was still possible.
But not being able to get rid of such a brutal and fullbred dictatorship as that of Maduro isn’t so much a failure as it is a mere reflection of how extremely difficult it is to oppose a raw, violent, armed and profoundly criminal state terror syndicate that has kidnapped the country for decades.

Bc all these leaders would rather preserve status quo for the leftist dictatorships in Venezuela and Cuba than aid a democratic opposition on the right. Lula & Co know well the horrors of these regimes, but have never uttered any meaningful criticism against them.
One could easily argue that the horrors of the regimes in Vzla and Cuba have been allowed to continue for so long precisely because of the failure of leftist govts in south and Latin America in particular to take a meaningful stance.

I don't understand why Maria Corina would refuse an invite to meet Pedro Sanchez, and through him Lula, sheinbaum and Petro.
She could have pleaded the case to all of them again for free elections in Venezuela, especially now that Trump seems less interested in that scenario and she needs other key leaders to support her cause.

El 26 de abril de 2017 llamó a su papá y le dijo que iba a protestar. En su bolso solo había una gorra tricolor, ciento cincuenta bolívares y una estampita con el Salmo 91. No tenía armas. Tenía 20 años y una convicción que muchos adultos nunca tendrán.
Un funcionario de la Guardia Nacional Bolivariana le disparó una bomba lacrimógena directamente al pecho desde 15 metros. Le fracturó el esternón. Le provocó un shock cardiogénico. Llegó a Salud Chacao sin signos vitales. Los médicos lucharon 35 minutos. A las 3:26 de la tarde fue declarado muerto.
Esa noche, Diosdado Cabello salió en televisión a decir que la GNB no estaba en Altamira y que “de repente apareció un muchacho muerto.” Mintió. El régimen dijo que lo mataron sus propios compañeros con una pistola de perno. Mintieron. En 2021 el propio Tarek William Saab tuvo que admitir la verdad: lo mató la GNB.
Doce funcionarios imputados. Ninguno preso. Quince fiscales. Su hermana María Gabriela murió a los 19 años sin superar la depresión por perder a su hermano. Sus padres siguen yendo cada semana al Ministerio Público mientras los hacen esperar horas y llaman “guarimbero” a su hijo muerto.
Diosdado Cabello encubrió este crimen desde el primer minuto. Este es uno más de los que carga. Ya es hora de que ese hombre sea neutralizado y enfrente a la justicia.
