This thread is only a fraction of what I've seen & what people told me in Sagaing, Myanmar. If any editors would be interested in any stories about Sagaing, the people, fighters, refugees, war crimes, drone units etc, or if anyone know of any editors who might, my DMs are open!

I have just come back Myanmar 🇲🇲 where I spent two weeks traveling around the resistance-held territories of the Sagaing region. Its a remote region which no other foreign press has managed to visit since the start of the war five years ago. I'll share some impressions below 🧵

@ThomasVLinge Seen a lot of people who convinced themselves he was gonna lose in 2021 (he won by 33%) are presently working hard to convince themselves he's gonna lose this time

@societyimprover I would not see it is unusual per se, but it does go against current popular conception that the anti-colonial struggles of the 1800/1900s were exclusively by indigenous/black/brown/mixed people's against European white elite.

@ThomasVLinge That's not that unusual, is it? In the United States, independence was an elite project too, while groups that stood to be marginalised in the new state, Blacks, Natives, non-English speaking whites disproportionately sided with the British.

@ThomasVLinge Fake news. The black, mulatto and even indigenous population supported Simon Bolivar in his struggle for the independence of Venezuela and Latin America against the Spanish colonial empire. I already told you last time: spending a few days in Mexico doesn't make you an expert on

@fernandezcapia That was later in the conflict. In the initial years, probably up until 1815, the Venezuelan struggle for independence was largely a white creole movement

The more things change, the more they stay the same. And in Venezuela 🇻🇪 a lot has stayed the same.

@NotWoofers Yeah I think in this case the traction is because the video is saying something that many Sudanese have been frustrated about for weeks now.

@almawtliazrbjn I agree, but having been to Armenia multiple times I do feel like this large portion would never admit so publicly. Maybe that has shifted over the past months but I never noticed a open discussions about Artsakh in this way.

Foreigners are usually surprised by the popularity of Nikol despite his anti-NK rhetoric. Its not surprising after you learn about 🇦🇲 society. There is a large portion of the 🇦🇲 population who dont mind losing Artsakh, and thats the demographic Pashinyan appeals to
Thomas van Linge@ThomasVLinge

Pashinyan's entire election campaign seems to be just him getting into arguments with people on the streets, yet his party still has a comfortable 15-20% lead over any other in the polls. Really makes you wonder how poorly the campaign of the Armenian opposition must be going.

I think everyone in Ukraine knows the Askania Nova Reserve, now in occupied Kherson. It is good to see that after four years of occupation the animals are still there. But sad to see the park now serves as the background of pro-Russian propaganda.

Trump will not go into the midterm elections with the shadow of the failed Iran war hanging over the GOP. He will likely look for a quick win to underscore his strength like he felt Venezuela had done for him in January He might be eyeing Cuba to do that axios.com/2026/05/11/tru…
