Our 2024 charity is @SERVKent - volunteers taking blood supplies across East Kent. We hope to cover the running costs of 2 bikes for next year. Please donate by this QR code, justgiving.com/crowdfunding/h…, or throw some notes in the nosebag at any of our #hoodening performances. 🐴

@skullsnsheets Hard to say - never been! Wrong time of year, focus on music & morris, dance etc. so not really hoodening style. It's popular (1m people) but locally has been seen as problematic (drunk teens etc.). Folkies seem to like it.

Fans of #Hoodening may well like this forthcoming book "An Annual Affair: Some Traditional British Calendar Customs", full of photos of rarer local events (we're included). Good support so far but still some weeks left to choose which 'reward' option you want.

Delighted that my Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for the new book has now gone live. Please take time to follow the link kickstarter.com/projects/homer… You may find it interesting. I hope so. Many thanks, Homer Sykes

@ArtworksMick @TheFolkArchive Actually 1981. The Boy was only born in 1966! He and Sam joined in 1980 so it's their second year. Black Beauty joined in 1976. Others on pic were there in 1966/7 (in some capacity).

@saki220 ちなみに、上記の(ウィキペディアの)写真は馬ではなく牛の頭蓋骨なので、ツウの間では結構馬鹿にされています。🐴

@curious_kent Hoodening happens around (just before) Christmas - or the winter solstice, if you prefer. A vaguely similar custom in Cheshire called soul-caking is sort of around harvest time (i.e. All Souls). Hop hoodening (a modern invention) is around harvest time.

Last 'event' at @MaidstoneMuseum's great "Animal #Guising and the Kentish #HoodenHorse" exhibition - James Frost giving a curator's tour, Geoff Doel talking about #MariLwyd and other horse traditions, and handbells from the Bedford Ensemble. 3 weeks until it closes!🐴

Everything you wanted to know about #hoodening and #hoodenhorses but never dared ask is - probably - contained in hoodening.org.uk, the @OzaruBooks publications shown there, the current exhibition at @MaidstoneMuseum … and the podcast below. Enjoy! #folklorethursday 🐴
