Half of UK universities face a deficit next year. Up to 50 could close.
That is a sector in crisis. Simply blaming a tuition fee freeze and nudging fees up with inflation is not a plan. Where is the long-term strategy for higher education?

This Gileadesque policy would violate European human rights law and the Equality Act.
Ask yourself why Reform want those equality protections removed.
And if you still think this agenda is compatible with 'women's rights' give your head a wobble.
@HoppingOnEmpty For the purposes of this study, let's reframe this as "natural light".
Any exposure to natural light is very important.
For other reasons, Vitamin D supplements are recommended by NHS ✅️
NEW KNOWLEDGE ALERT ⚠️
A recent study in diabetic patients showed that a lack of exposure to sunlight will indirectly affect your metabolism of glucose.
The solution? 🤔
If you're indoors, even moving closer to a window will positively impact your circadian rhythm. ✅️
Jim gave some cracking answers in the q & a this evening, @RealTimBooth you should let him get a word in edgeways more often! Seriously, though, thanks for a great two mini gigs tonight. Worth the trip down south.
@BexBookaholic I have to choose a book for my book group every now and again which always feels quite a pressure! This is my choice for a few months time. Haven't read it yet but hoping it will deliver.
In a sliding doors moment of surprising consequence, we meet Cora as she decides what to name her son - and there 3 stories diverge with the 3 different names. A deeply moving exploration of domestic violence, childhood trauma and the power of names, I highly recommend this.
Quite a few folk have said that they missed my photos. This has given me a small boost that counters the dark relentless depression whose controlling voice is my brain's inner git-when I'm not well she tells me that my posts, work (& me) are utter worthless sh*te.
Here are some of my photos to make up a little for my absence due to brain illness. I design them using recent research on how looking at plants, flowers & plant-based patterns improve human mental health.
If you zoom in & they make your brain feel better, even slightly, for a few seconds, maybe...RT this? ty:
Remembering the hidden history of disabled people in the Holocaust. The demonising of ‘useless eaters’, the propaganda to convince ordinary citizens that they were a drain on the resources of the State & the complicity of medics in euthanasia are lessons we should heed. Never more relevant. #HolocaustMemorialDay#Eugenics
@Shrink_at_Large should add that of all the labels IAPT practitioners have given me (without me asking for any), this is the one that fitted with my own personal experience best, at the time of the discussion at least....
@Shrink_at_Large IMVHO I prefer the second one (it's less complicated so easier for people), also the C doesn't seem an add on or something separate but an integral part. I agree that D for disorder is problematic but perhaps leave it off entirely just don't faff with brackets or inverted commas
