Two brothers accused of assaulting a police officer at Manchester Airport,will not face a third trial. Cleared. The decision was made after two separate juries at Liverpool Crown Court could not reach verdicts.

I can confirm that I will be requesting the permission of the NEC to stand in the Makerfield by-election. I grew up in this area and have lived here for 25 years. I care deeply about it and its people. I know they have been let down by national politics. Ten years ago, I decided to leave Westminster. Why? Because, after 16 years, I came to the conclusion that our national political system does not work for areas like ours. I learnt this fighting its failure to invest in the Wigan borough, for justice for the Hillsborough families and against its treatment of Greater Manchester during the pandemic. Over the last decade, I have been challenging this failure from the outside and building a new and better way of doing politics. We have built Greater Manchester into the fastest-growing city-region in the UK and put buses back under public control, introducing a £2 fare cap to help people with cost-of-living pressures. However, there is only so much that can be done from Greater Manchester. Much bigger change is needed at a national level if everyday life is to be made more affordable again. This is why I now seek people’s support to return to Parliament: to bring the change we have brought to Greater Manchester to the whole of the UK and make politics work properly for people. Millions are struggling and they need the Labour Government to succeed. It has already made changes to make life better for them in its first two years. After this week, we owe it to people to come back together as a Labour movement, giving the Prime Minister and the Government the space and stability they need as the by-election takes place. I want to recognise the difficult decision taken by Josh Simons and the sacrifice he and his family are making. I have worked closely with him as Mayor on issues like flooding and illegal waste dumping and have seen first-hand how effective he has been. He has put the communities of Makerfield first, made a real difference for them and should take great pride in that. Finally, I truly do not take a single vote for granted and will work hard to regain the trust of people in the Makerfield constituency, many of whom have long supported our party but lost faith in recent times. We will change Labour for the better and make it a party you can believe in again. ENDS

@Ella_M_Whelan My son was diagnosed autistic aged 10 by NHS. At 16 his autism is even clearer. I wish he'd been diagnosed age 2-3 so we should have understood him better. Earlier diagnosis would have helped enormously.

A great example of the problem with SEND, kids, parents, schools - the idea that only the 'experts' can have an opinion, many of whom believe anyone a bit shy and quiet is 'neurodivergent'. Parents understand their kids better than anyone else - they absolutely should not 'zip'.

@jabberwock951 I teach UK primary and I don't recognise ANY of this. I think 95% of what's under discussion here is about secondary academies. IMO this needs to be made clear.

Six hours in isolation for accidentally leaving your planner in the car. If I worked somewhere with that kind of punitive attitude towards normal human mistakes, I'd quit. What are we teaching our kids by forcing them into that kind of environment?

@AdamHighcliffe Unfortunately, Greater Manchester ICB has decided children will only get an autism or ADHD assessment if they meet "criteria" - which is mainly having moderate to severe mental health needs. Everyone else will be signposted to "support". Same for adults.

"There's so much suffering that I have endured that I would not have endured if I'd been diagnosed [with ADHD] when I was younger." Yet another testimony from an ND adult diagnosed late. "He said having no formal diagnosis as a child meant he struggled throughout school". 1/2

@bphillipsonMP Many would prefer we got the promised SEND school locally, which has now been cancelled and would have been local, than pushing our children into mainstream where they can't cope.

Parents want good, local schools that can support children with SEND to achieve, where inclusion is the norm and support comes early. You’ve spoke, we’ve listened. Labour is creating tens of thousands of specialist SEND places and giving school staff the training they need.

I did a tweet yesterday about how we visited a elderly lady and Ryan cheekily ate a mince pie, this was a light hearted tweet and indeed the lady found it very funny, but I have had a email from someone thats taken it very seriously informing me that I should urgently write this lady a long letter of apology on Ryan's behalf and no im not joking, I mean for starters she has a mobile phone much better than mine so if I needed to apologise id send a message or a WhatsApp , secondly she found it hilarious,she said if we'd gone around empty handed she would of still been absolutely chuffed to see us, the fact we took a hamper then Ryan put on a cheeky comedy show made her day, this is a account about autism the ups n downs the serious side and the humour, if it offends you simply unfollow.

@LauraTrottMP Wrong, they’ve cancelled free schools with falling pupil on roll numbers. It will be up to local authorities to decide on how they spend this money. Either into special schools or SEND provision in mainstream schools.
