I am convinced that one of the most important things a staff member can do to contribute to a strong culture is to be excited about their job. This does not require skill, experience, or innovation. But it does require heart.

Kids might like you as a teacher for your personality, your charisma, your excitement and energy for what you do. But they’ll respect you for your character, your courage, your standing for equality, justice, and truth even when it’s uncomfortable.

Being humble as a leader doesn’t mean you don’t have confidence, or that your ideas don’t matter, or that you aren’t decisive or strong. Being humble is thinking of others, listening, being willing to learn, and also giving others the chance to exercise their leadership.

When you have 20 people (parents, teachers, followers) saying positive things & 1 person saying negative, if you focus on the negative, then you are saying that person’s opinion is more important than the other 20. Don’t get wrapped up with negative people.

My heroes are teachers. You get the job done no matter what, even in a pandemic. You’re doing whatever you can to serve your students. You’re reaching out. You’re cheering them on. You’re giving them hope. It’s not easy to do this work. But it’s worth it. It’s changing lives.

Our words are probably more powerful than we can ever know. It’s so important to speak words that lift up, give encouragement, and offer hope. The words we say can make an extraordinary difference in the lives of others and in our own life too.

Each person in your school contributes to the culture of your school. School culture is built on the actions and interactions of the people. You make your school stronger by adding value to others and by making others feel valued.
