If the police get a bullshit call about you allegedly breaking some law or local ordinance, the police show up and you have a consentual conversation because you've done nothing wrong (I know many would not talk to them at all, smart, but for the purpose of the question) and they say they are about to cut you loose when they ask for your id, but on principle you refuse to give it up. Then they start threatening to arrest you for failure to id if you dont. You calmly explain that you arent suspected of committing a crime because there is no proof of any crime and they already told you they just need your id (or name, address and DOB) for the report. You continue refusing, never giving it upwhile invoking your fourth amendment constitutional right... In this hypothetical situation, should you and could you LEGALLY be arrested for failing to provide ID? Yes or No?

If you’ve got a better idea for a system that enforces our laws and keeps people safe while not imposing physical violence on them sometimes in order to restrain them or to keep them from breaking other laws then I’m all ears.
