Sigh. Jonathan is a nice guy and all, but he’s also the same city council person that was asking a developer about building a pedestrian bridge when the developer’s lawyer was discussing issuing a 90 day notice of eviction to tenants. The disconnect is so unreal, not just with him but with others too. I mean the rest of the city, including downtown is a mess, and all we can think about are two-way concrete protected bike lanes? So is this how 2025 begins? #privilegeisreal #ralpol

I’ve been accused of “wanting to turn Raleigh into New York City” - ok then, let’s start with these 2-way, concrete-protected bike lanes 🛴🚲 #ralpol

@HousingWake is rightfully protesting the @Raleigh_Housing ‘s alleged interference in a duly elected Tenant Resident Council. I am only using the word “alleged” because I’m a lawyer and because I’m still waiting to hear a response from the housing authority’s lawyer regarding this allegation. Yet, no response from its attorney thus far after an entire summer has passed, after a phone call and a couple of emails asking for a response to these concerns by the duly elected chair. @HousingWake⁩ Did you know that Black-owned businesses receive just 2% of the total revenue from consumer spending, while Asian and Hispanic businesses are supported at much higher rates? 🤯 It’s time to change that! @goodefoodsfamily/post/DAgd86VxPWT/?xmt=AQGzzYzYM-WI3KQAxd22zEZvsEWO3KXIXH4dUjuoAAXrWQ" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">threads.net/@goodefoodsfam

Last night as I attended the North Hills dem social the state of Missouri murdered Marcellus Williams, an innocent man. As I spoke to the crowd of dedicated organizers fighting for democracy, the future of our courts, schools, & laws that govern our bodies this wasn’t lost on me

I understand how those who are not entrenched in fair housing law, systems change and anti-racism work, may not understand how efforts to preserve existing neighborhood demographics, in some cases, extend fair housing practices. The city of Raleigh and ostensibly “pro-housing advocates” think their “housing for all” war cry is moral and just. Yet, there is nothing moral or just about it. “Housing for all,” as implemented in #RakeighNC is not “fair housing.” It’s not fair housing if “housing for all” practices limit or restrict housing opportunity for certain protective groups. The “housing for all” cry is not just, if it’s not done through a lens of equity. Equity is defined as fairness, and it’s embedded in a process that allocates resources and opportunities based on need. Example: In an area of high market value, if you removed a Neighborhood Conservation Overly District in a vulnerable community, and replace it with upzoning and intense development, the outcome will not produce equity. It seemingly produces equality, and initially newcomers get to live alongside existing residents. Yet, soon we began to see the displacement of lower wealth, existing residents. Therefore, if the injection of wealthier newcomers displace the legacy or existing residents, there is no more equality. There can be no equality without equity. So, it’s clear there was not equity from the start. The equity would have been to anticipate the increased market activity in vulnerable communities due to the construction of newer and more expensive housing. Equity practices would have analyzed the displacement risk and dictated doing something to prevent the displacement. Therefore, this war cry by ostensibly “pro housing advocates,” is a cry for surface equality. It’s not a cry for equity, fairness, or true housing for all. Neighborhood Conservation Overly Districts and restrictive covenants, once kept Blacks out of desirable neighborhoods. Now, these same overly districts and restrictive covenants can keep them in. They can reduce the injection of displacing market activity, that is usually most intense in communities experiencing vulnerabilities. These lower wealth residents often have no political power, and often those they’ve elected have abandoned them. They also can’t afford to fight developers or the city in court—unless they have a community lawyer. I believe strongly that the City of Raleigh, developers, YIMBYs and “pro housing” advocates know exactly what they are doing to move people out. Raleigh deserves to have its day in court, and the people do too. #ralpol @RaleighGov

As long as the local and state Democratic Party continues to empower and vote for the Black political sellouts/status quos and white political supremacists and capitalists, the Black community & most vulnerable will continue to suffer and be erased.

These social media and lobbying campaigns are Anti-Black and not inclusive. They intentionally left out the Black community that will be impacted the most.... Heritage Park's voices and concerns.

Give me an example of an instance where Raleigh’s missing middle ordinance has increased the supply of affordable housing. What are some instances where developers have come into a community under the hours of using such ordinance and has proposed “affordable housing,” housing that’s at 80% of the area median income and below?

At Tuesday’s City Council meeting during 9/17/24, "Street Closing - STC-03-2024", the closure of South Street as part of the requests to expand Red Hat Amphitheater, is a racist infrastructure ensuring the death of the historic Black community in downtown Raleigh at Heritage Park
