Had discussions with select countries in Africa recommending their national action plans on business and human rights address issues of artificial intelligence, including social media. Happy that it's gaining traction. bbc.com/news/articles/…

@SpireJim It's an issue of business & human rights. I have always called corporations in Uganda to align operations with international human rights standards to avoid harming employees. Also seen an increase in cases of sexual exploitation & abuse, esp female employees which go unreported.

“Hello Prof, Thank you for the important work you do. I humbly request that you consider running a campaign focused on labor practices in banks. Many employees are consistently required to work overtime without compensation. While this is often overlooked due to high unemployment rates, there are more serious concerns. There have been cases of fraud or security breaches linked to weak systems, yet the consequences are unfairly shifted onto a few employees—particularly in ICT departments. Some individuals have had their careers abruptly ended without due process or a fair hearing. Attempts to seek justice through the courts are often frustrating, as these institutions appear to have strong connections. In certain banks, leadership decisions—especially from top management—seem unchecked, with dismissals happening with little or no evidence. Human Resource departments and Risk teams, who should provide balance and professionalism, often remain silent or unaccountable. These concerns are evident in institutions such as … , where such practices are reportedly affecting employees and undermining trust in the banking sector. I kindly ask that you bring attention to this issue and advocate for fairness, transparency, and accountability. Please keep my identity confidential. Thank you.”

@newvisionwire Would you profile female teachers? I might recommend a few, but there are many excellent ones out there.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is out of order! Let's flip the narrative to business & human rights. Would it be accurate if I mentioned multinational corporations, including INEOS are recognising Africa given their numbers & spheres of influence on human rights!!! bbc.com/news/articles/…

@USEmbassyUganda A visa is part of the freedom of movement which is a right. When you impose barriers that are overly restrictive on the right to freedom of movement, especially measures, such as fees, you are literally in violation of human rights. Imagine Uganda does the same with refugees!

"A visa is a privilege granted for a specific purpose, not a right, and overstaying or misusing a visa can have serious, lasting consequences."  - #AmbPopp speaking at a press conference with @UgandaMFA on U.S. visa policy.  "By understanding and following U.S. visa terms, Ugandan travelers help keep legitimate travel open and strengthen the enduring relationship between our two countries."  Learn more about visa regulations here:  ug.usembassy.gov/visas/

Inherent in the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights is failing to show how civil society integrates within the broader framework, but rather makes them viewed as victims & not a sector instrumental in promoting implementation of the guiding principles - Dr Howard Ayo

A great experience with the validation team. Meaningful participation means your voice shapes both the content & direction of any public policy. It also means integration of voices of children, women, persons with disabilities & those marginalised for various reasons.
