If you continue to discuss “how the get people back to the races,” and don’t understand that people used to flock to the track to BET, then you are completely wasting your breath and everyone else’s time. Racetracks used to be packed because it was the ONLY place to bet with bookmakers, rather than the TAB. Almost all administrators treat gambling as racings, “dirty little secret,” and pretend people will come back if they promote, “the athletes,” meaning the horses and the jockeys. All clubs across the country have been actively involved in decimating the on course betting experience. Exhibit One, Flemington. Unless you make it financially advantageous to go to the track, then the chance of getting big crowds back to racecourses on a regular basis is zero. Zero.
