Let’s talk about why Dalton Eatherly aka ChudtheBuilder was charged with attempted murder and not originally justified as self-defense.
In the state of Tennessee, you are required by law to not antagonize or harass people while legally carrying a firearm. That includes creating a confrontation and approaching people with the intent to antagonize. This is taught in classes here in Tennessee for anyone seeking a carrying license.
If you do, and a confrontation happens, and you shoot someone, the case for self-defense drastically drops. And with all the publicly available evidence of Dalton doing this to people, threats of shooting and macing people, the District Attorney has an extremely strong case against Dalton’s claim of self-defense.

The court doesn't decide on moral issues and sentence you to prison for actions in a moral sense, but for a legal one. To do so would be to violate 1A, as evidenced/demonstrated by this event/arrest.
