@PastaSteveGreen Thanks Steven, I have it and am looking forward to reading his chapters on the Beatitudes this week.

@HrcPastor I gave some lectures/sermons to the students at Lokichoggio, based on Sinclair Ferguson's little (but big) book on the Sermon on Mount (published by BofT). Loved it.

Finally getting round to reading this classic that I have had on my shelf for years, due to the fact I have begun preaching through the Sermon on the Mount. Though, as you would expect from MLJ, it contains some great insights and is very helpful in places…

One more comment: MLJ maintains that there is a definite sequence of thought and logical progression through the Beatitudes, but I’m not convinced there is.

But I might be wrong! Who am I to disagree with Lloyd-Jones?! One is never too comfortable when you find yourself disagreeing with him!

@ssimonnin I see your point. I didn’t take enough notice of the ‘always’ in his comment. I presumed he was criticising ministers who do it at all (which he might be implying, but is not stating).

@HrcPastor Maybe there is but he's referring to preachers who constantly talk about themselves & their families. I've heard a lot of lengthy & pointless illustrations of that sort and I agree with him that it is wrong. I think there is a lot of unsanctified vanity among preachers.
