Congratulating Hon’ble LG of Delhi, @SandhuTaranjitS While the world famously knows him for bolstering India-US ties and leading the country’s diplomatic missions, not many know of his rich legacy of seva. His grandfather S Teja Singh Samundri led the SGPC uprising with pathbreaking initiatives, particularly the first movement for democracy in India, with the right of voting assured to women too. He was martyred in Lahore Jail under suspicious circumstances in 1926. Not only the Sikh community but the country is indebted to him for his service to the nation and sacrifice.

Supreme Court Advocate @hsphoolka has raised serious questions over the recent encounter in Gurdaspur. Phoolka said that even if the police version of events is accepted, it reflects a major lapse and negligence by the police and security agencies. He questioned how Pakistan’s ISI could allegedly penetrate so deeply without being detected, and asked what the police and security agencies were doing to prevent such threats. He also questioned the procedure followed during the operation, asking why recovery was being conducted at midnight and why the Intelligence Bureau was not involved. Phoolka further said that if the alleged mastermind Ranjit was killed in the encounter, it would become difficult to uncover the larger conspiracy and identify others involved. He expressed concern that the police narrative suggests an attempt to shield certain individuals who may have influential political connections. Phoolka emphasized that as per Indian law, an accused must be produced before a court. He cited the example of Ajmal Kasab, who was presented before the court despite being responsible for the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. He warned that such actions create the impression of a “police state” and stressed that Punjab is a sensitive border state. He cautioned that the government must act responsibly and warned that Punjab is a highly sensitive border state, and by failing to recognize its seriousness, the government is effectively playing with fire.

Why did Pb Police send junior officers to arrest criminal accused with alleged links to ISI? Why are the accused always apprehended at police checkpoints?
