I've been in the Eastern Cape since Monday, visiting various schools across the province to check on the state of sanitation infrastructure. Together with the team we managed to monitor 116 SAFE projects.

#TeacherDevelopment | The Department of Basic Education, in collaboration with the South African Council for Educators (SACE), today marks the start of the national rollout of the Online Teacher Development Platform (OTDP) training workshops at Suikerland Secondary School in Malelane, Mpumalanga. The OTDP is a multi-phase national initiative developed to coordinate integrated Continuing Professional Teacher Development (CPTD) activities and to provide course management services for approved content providers. The platform addresses both systemic priorities and individual professional development needs, strengthening educator capacity and supporting continuous professional growth across South Africa. Participants in the workshop include e-Learning Specialists, provincial and district Teacher Development Coordinators, teacher centre representatives, and Curriculum district officials. @Siviwe_G @ReginahMhaule @HubertMweli @Mpueducation @SACE9 #EducationZA #TeacherDevelopmentZA #OTDP #GovZAUpdates

The Department of Basic Education is hosting a Practical Skills Training on CAPS: Occupational, Vocational and Oriented Subjects from 26–30 January at Resolution Circle. This training forms part of DBE’s commitment to expanding inclusive learning pathways, strengthening the Three Stream Model, and remodelling the schooling system to respond to national development priorities. By aligning education with labour market needs, self-employment opportunities and community development, DBE continues to build a single, integrated education and training system that prepares learners for the future. #ThreeStreamModel #SkillsForTheFuture #CAPS #InclusiveEducation #VocationalEducation #GovZAUpdates

This morning my team and I kicked off the 2026 district support visits and engagement sessions with the #ClassOf2026. First on the schedule is the number 1 education district in the country, in terms of the #MatricResults, the Johannesburg West Education District.

#MatricResults | The processes leading to the release of the #NSCExams2025 results are nearing completion. The standardisation of marks for the #ClassOf2025 is currently underway. According to @UmalusiSA standardisation is done through statistical adjustment of mark distribution on the guidance of the norm, to mitigate the effects on performance, of factors other than candidates' ability and knowledge.

#NSCExams2025 | While the #ClassOf2025 eagerly await their #MatricResults the DBE commenced with pre-standardisation meetings yesterday. With standardisation scheduled for tomorrow, 22 December, the DBE has engaged in meetings with individual provinces where experts were presented with the #NSCExams2025 papers for analysis with a special focus on areas of unfairness. Their findings and recommendations will be presented to @UmalusiSA during the standardisation meeting tomorrow.

Inkunzi kuk'vuka! Growing up my father loved this saying. Meaning "the earliest bird catches the fattest worm", it's one of the guiding principles that has served me well throughout life. Today we started our marking centre visits eMvelo at 5:00, and wrapped up at 22:30 eNanda.

We've just wrapped up our marking centre visits for today. We're grateful to the markers for putting aside some time for us; seeing for myself how they are faring is important to me. With these visits we're able to quickly address any concerns brought up by the marking officials.

I'm humbled to have received one of the SAICA Chairman's Awards. We do what we do not for accolades but for impact; still it warms my heart that our efforts have not gone unnoticed. We've supported the SAICA Thuthuka camps for years, aiming to increase Accounting learner numbers.

As the end of the examinations approaches, learners are encouraged to embrace steady, practical routines that foster a sense of calm and focus. By incorporating brief breathing exercises, moments of stillness, and light movement into their daily activities, learners can rediscover clarity and ease the pressure. #ManagingExamAnxiety #EducationZA #GovZAUpdates #NSC2025

In recognition of this year’s 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children, South Africans are called to demonstrate a steadfast commitment to safeguarding the rights, dignity, and safety of women and children across all spheres of life. From 25 November to 10 December 2025, the nation joins the global community in advancing a unified effort under the theme “Letsema: Men, Women, Boys and Girls working together to end Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF).” This theme reflects the growing movement toward constructive dialogue, shared responsibility, and positive models of masculinity, aligned with ongoing engagements connected to the G20 framework. Let us stand together, promote accountability, and strengthen collective action to build communities free from harm. Every voice matters, and every action taken helps move South Africa closer to a future defined by safety, equality, and justice for all. #16DaysOfActivism #EndGBVF #SafetyAndDignityForAll #EndViolenceInSchools #EndGBVFInSchools #EducationZA #GovZAUpdates
