"Oh, you guys are wrong for wanting to speak clearly and confidently about what you believe, which makes you a bad Christian (he says after speaking clearly and confidently about what he believes)." Paul gave us clear instructions to flee from such people in Romans 16.

Vladimir Putin has just renamed the FSB's academy after Felix Dzerzhinsky, the architect of the Red Terror in Russia, which included the persecution & martyrdom of Orthodox clergy & saints including Saint Elizabeth. Still the hero of Orthobros or starting to see the real man yet?

@DSWcab @d_bahler But there was a level of spiritual development prior to said arguments, which is the point. They didn't start out arguing like that.

X Orthodoxy is not Orthodoxy Fighting over the interpretation of the saints and the councils, declaring your opponents to be heretics, all the back biting, quarreling and all of that The holy scriptures unambiguously tell us to flee from these things, so that's what I have to do Not a single one of these debates between Orthodox Christians is beneficial for anyone's salvation. Not a single one of these debates is drawing us closer to Christ. Not a single one is leading us in genuine and meaningful repentance. It's all fighting over things that, for you and I, don't really matter at the neglect of what is needful for us, true and genuine repentance We have Orthodox Christians intentionally trying to make other Orthodox Christians angry. That is grave sin This is all the playground of demons, and my suggestion to all of you is that you try to have an ounce of humility, lay it all down and walk away from it all. This is shameful and we should all be ashamed of ourselves, repent of this wickedness, and throw ourselves before the mercies of our God that we might be saved. Why are we so bent on tearing down what the Holy Spirit has raised up? By the grace of God the Church is growing and tens of thousands are funding the arc of salvation. But we, in our pride and presumption, caring only about ourselves, are throwing away this amazing gift and tearing apart the sacred unity that God has given us. If this is how we are going to be, Orthodoxy in America will fail and ask of this will have been for nothing. Lord have mercy.

@d_bahler Debating is not inherently wrong and neither is some contention. Many saints and church fathers quite aggressively debated heretics and even each other

@HariPatari @DueinMed @AngloVarangian One a month, a interpretation of Basils canon. We get some Greeks complaining to our priest that there are too many new faces at Holy Week (the only time they attend).

Can't imagine how annoyed Greeks feel seeing converts who've only been in the Church for a few years calling the Orthodox Traditions their families have maintained for nearly 2000 years "modernism"

@gimmethatOTR Attending another nations church is schismatic. A nation establishing its own church on the soil of another nation is schismatic. There should only be an American Orthodox church within this nation, with its own traditions and customs.

Attending an Antiochian or Greek Orthodox parish, being formed as a catechumen and received by holy baptism and chrism, and then partaking regularly of the sacraments isn’t “LARPing as eastern”. It is being grafted into a tradition of the Orthodox Church, and we ought not sniff the Hand that heals us because it isn’t sufficiently “western”. The step beyond the “first step” of participating in a traditionally “eastern” rite is to be purified, then illumined, then deified. Thinking we have to refashion Orthodoxy as “western” is a vain pursuit. The Church will gradually redeem the culture that adopts it, and generations in, that culture — “western” or otherwise — will be transformed and Holy Tradition will produce pious traditions that reflect our heritage.

We cannot LARP as Eastern, we must reclaim the faith fully as Western Orthodoxy, Celtic Orthodoxy, American Orthodoxy, Southern Orthodoxy etc. Going to a Russian or Greek church must be seen as the first step in a series of steps.

@gimmethatOTR Being Orthodox is not about being Eastern or Western. The Church exists in the place it does and isn't tied to any particular ethnicity or culture outside of supporting those who are members.

@AppyOrtho There is no need to become Eastern when going to a Greek church.

People say Protestantism always becomes liberal. Then explain why the LCMS (Lutheran Church of Missouri synod) is not liberal?

>marry an orthodox girl Sorry but the Orthodox Church is BYOB (Bring Your Own Babe) If you are a young American man who converts to Orthodoxy you will not find an Orthodox wife. Bring one in with you.

Here’s your job: -Become Orthodox -Marry an Orthodox Girl -Have Orthodox babies -Visit Orthodox Monasteries -Go to Orthodox Liturgies and at the end… enter into the joy of the Lord🙏🏽☦️

Lex orandi lex credendi requires the vernacular. You have to understand what is being said in order to pray with understanding.
